Hello,

you might follow your drain line back to your machine. Carefully remove panels, and peer in. sometimes going as far back to the pump itself will help. Clear out all debris in the pump hoses, and see if this helps.

Maytag washer throwing fault code 21

An "F21" or "F02" error code is indicative of a slow draining cycle, normally caused by a clogged or kinked drain hose. If an "F21" or "F02" error code appears, check the drain hose on the back of your washer to ensure that it is not clogged or bent. Once the drain hose has been unblocked, the error code should disappear and the machine drain properly. However, if you have a high efficiency washing machine and the error code continues to appear, make sure you are using the correct detergent; because high efficiency machines use much less water than traditional washing machines, they require the use of a low sudsing detergent. Traditional detergents may produce too many suds, which can block the machine's drain hose and lead to slower draining cycles.

I keep getting error code F21 on my kenmore elite which is a drain error the drain is not clogged and the drain hose is not clogged any ideas on what I could do?

The error code F21 is similar to F02 which both pertains to a draining problem. The usual cause is a blocked drain filter or a clogged/kinked. But since those areas are found to be not the source of the problem, the problem must be somewhere else. It is either the drain pump is broken particularly the impeller if the pump just hums/whirs or the pressure switch contacts are stuck/welded together and is, therefore, not tripping. The link below provides the detailed troubleshooting instructions the problem of this kind after the drain filter has been cleaned out.

Error Code F02/F21 on Whirlpool Duet and Kenmore Elite Front Load Washers (Filter Cleaned)

What's F-21

This error code F21 signifies a drain problem and usually caused by a blocked drain filter. Check to make sure that the drain hose is free from obstructions then remove the three screws securing the bottom front panel to the cabinet then pull the panel down and off the cabinet. You may prop up the bottom front edge of the machine with a 4X4 block of wood or cushion the top rear edge and lean it against the wall for easy access and removal of the screws.

Once the bottom front panel is off, you'll find the drain filter knob. Turn the knob counterclockwise to remove and clean the filter. You may need to lay a towel under the filter to catch residual water before removing it. Manually drain the water, by gravity, from the tub if significant amount of water is still present by placing the end of the drain hose as low as possible into a basin or bucket.

My whirpool duet front loader and when my washer get to the last 2 minutes it Flases F. What is this and how do I fix it???

This is a fault code but the F flashes alternately with a number or another character depending on the model of the machine to indicate the fault code number. Since the fault happened at the last two minutes of the cycle, it is likely associated with a drain problem and the fault code is likely F02 or F21 depending on the machine's model.

Remove the three screws attaching the lower front access panel to the cabinet then pull the panel down and off the cabinet. You can prop up the bottom front edge of the washer or cushion and lean it against the wall to access and remove the screws more easily. Once the panel is off, you'll find a knob which is the drain filter. Turn the knob counterclockwise to remove the filter and clean it. You may need to lay a towel under the filter to catch residual water before removing it. Manually drain the water, by gravity, from the tub if significant amount of water is still present by placing the end of the drain hose as low as possible into a basin or bucket.

The Sd code appears when sud is detected but it may also indicate draining problem such as blocked drain filter or broken drain pump as signified by the long drain error code F21. The drain pump impeller may be broken or restricted resulting in poor draining or no draining at all or the drain pump motor is faulty. Since the drain hose and filter have been cleaned but the error code still persists, the drain pump likely needs to be replaced. sounds like you have covered all the bases --- the next thing that I would try is to simply unplug the unit from the wall and let is sit for a minute or two and then plug back in. if this does not solve your F21 code, then I would say that the problem is at the sensor or main circuit board.

Hello, Welcome to FixYa. The "F02" on your model of washer indicates the machine has detected a fault or obstruction in the drain process as you obviously already know. Chances are the pump itself is the fault based on your post, at least it can`t be ruled out...yet. Here`s how to check it and clean it... Though it being full of water may make it messy. A wet-dry shop vac is handy in this situation. If it is in a position that allows you too lean it back against something strong or a second set of hands it will help if tilted back almost all the way. Careful not to hurt the machine or yourself, and undo the fill hoses and drain hose. **Turn off the breaker at the service panel or unplug the washer from the wall socket...safety first** 1) locate the screws in front at the very bottom of the panel below the door and pull the panel down and forward until it is off. They will be either 1/4" hex head or #20 torx head screws. 2) You will immediately see the drain pump in front of you with a large removable filter. 3) Turn it counter-clockwise should allow you to remove it and inspect it and clean it out. Make a good thorough inspection inside the pump as well not just the removable filter. 4) Re-insert the filter and before placing the panel back run a test rinse/drain cycle to inspect for leaks and to verify the unit drains and spins now. ( If the problem still exist`s the "F21" will re-appear. If so you`ll need to check the hose/rubber bellows from pump to tub...back-flow ball...for other obstructions ). 5) If all appears OK after your efforts, well your efforts paid off...pat yourself on the back. You just saved yourself potentially a couple hundred bucks ! Now You should be good to go. Re-attach the lower panel and you`re back in business. **NOTE: if this still fails to remedy the F02 or if it returns immediately during the next drain you may require a pump unfortunately...part # 280187 available at "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclinic.com" etc. **This however can also be caused by the back-flow ball inside the bellows which connects the tub to the pump. There is a large clamp which secures it to the tub, but if you remove it to clean out all the dirt built up inside, make sure you get it good and secure when putting it back.** If you'd like the benefit of this solution with pictures, visit my profile page and look for similar "F21" or "F02" postings they are one and the same just different eras. Let me know how it goes and if you require further assistance. Thanks for choosing FixYa. Please take a moment to rate the solution provided for you here today. Good luck. Regards, Macmarkus :)

Were is pump filter

The following link explains how to access the drain pump on a Whirlpool Duet front loader and clean it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385845-checking_drain_pump_in_whirlpool_duet

If you are experiencing problems with the washer draining and/or reocurring error codes of "F02", "SUD", or "F21", these are all indications of a drainage problem.

It does not take much to cause irreparable damage to the drain pump. If these preliminary measures do not correct the problem, you will need to replace the drain pump. Since any error codes are associated with drain times that exceed 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged in any way, these error codes will continue to occur until the pump is replaced.

NOTE: Double check the electrical connections to the pump, as well, by unplugging it and reseating it.

Read through the link provided and let me know if you have any questions. I hope this helps you.
