Question about GE Advantium SCA2001BSS Microwave Oven

After replacing the door latch, the fuse is blowing. With a new fuse installed the clock works; however, when the micro/convection oven is turned on, there is an electrical arc around the compasitor in the back of the unit. Thanks for you help.

Blows fuse when you open door

Be-safe, Un-plug your microwave oven ,

Open the microwave cover ,
Close and open door few times to check the door latch(es) and switch(es).
Door switch assembly may has one or more micro switches.( Most switches are black or grey and about 1,25 in long X 3/4 in wide X 5/6 in thick with two or three wire connections).
Making sure door latch close and open these micro-switches.

You can hear the switch "clicks" when small switch pin or lever is pressed.

Sometime these door micro-switches pin or lever get stuck or broken.

You can take couple pictures before remove wires or micro switches

You can buy these switches for about 3-7 dollars online. Some web sites have video showing how to check them. (Using Volt-Ohm meter)

I have a amv6167bds and convection works but no micro

Check the door safety interlock switches ... tiny micro switches found near the latch mech inside the cabinet.

If they are faulty, the oven thinks the door is open and will not turn on the 'heat' in microwave mode.

Thank you for your question @ FixYa.com

Micro blow circuit

You have a faulty interlock switch. This is one of two or three switches in every microwave that are operated by the door. The interlock switch is wired to blow the fuse if you try to run the oven with the door open. The switch may have gotten knocked out of adjustment (say by slamming the oven door) or its contacts stuck closed. If there are no other problems with the oven, a new switch should clear this up.

Sharp microwave convection oven model R-930AK. the interior light stays on all the time and the only thing that I am really able to operate is the clock and enter some commands but can not get any...

You do not say how old this unit is, but if the microcircuitry in the door latch is damaged the oven may be unsafe. Service on microwave ovens is not cost effective. For problems other than replacing the light bulb, I would buy a new oven. The prices have become very reasonable and the newer ovens have great new features. I had a Sharp unit for years. I started having problems and replaced it recently with a 1100 watt larger oven for about 20% of the cost of the first one.

Fuse

The Interlock Monitor Switch is an added
safety check on the Primary and
Secondary Interlock Switches. If the
Primary and Secondary Interlock Switches
allow the oven to operate with the door
open, the Monitor Switch will blow the
fuse.

You can get more information about adjuting the interlock switch from this link

sections 7-11 thru 7-12 discuss the door interlock adjustment that will cause the 20A fuse to blow if it isn't set up right. I hope this helps you...

My microwave/convection oven blew a fuse. replaced it and the convection works but when I try to use the microwave it blows the fuse again. what needs to be fixed?

Typically, when the fuse blows in the microwave, the high voltage capacitor fails and becomes shorted.
The door switches are also configured in such a way that if tampered with (in this case, failed switch or latch) the fuse will also blow. Check the capacitor first.

Sunbeam SMW5500 micro/convection oven shorted out when opening door

You are decribing a typical Door Safety Switch problem. The Door Safety Switches has Failed. The Door Safety Switch is designed to shut down the Micro in the event the Micro is still cooking when the door is being opened. The first "Click" of the switch cuts off the "Cook". If it does not cut off the "Cook", the second "Click" blows the power. Otherwise it would "Cook" with the door open, and I need not to tell you how DANGEROUS that could be. It first Tripped the Circuit Breaker which supplies power to the Microwave. After Re-Setting the Breaker the same thing happened except this time the Micro is DEAD- not even a light working. Yes, there is a line FUSE inside the Micro. You however need to address the Door Switch SHORT before replacing the fuse. If not, it will just Blow The Fuse Again, and Again, until the Short is corrected.
Call around, ask How much to replace a Door Safety Switch.
Good Luck!
