Does it actually power up? (i.e. can you hear any power going through it? do the fans all spin round? are the hard drives powering up?). If there's no power going through it, try a second power supply if you have one.

I can't install win xp pro. on my G41MT-S2P..i always get "a disk error has occured" prompt

This model motherboard does not use IDE/PATA hard drives.
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive. http://www.fixya.com/support/r4335035-installing_windows_xp_sata_hard_drive

I have an msi ms-7390 k9n sli ver 2 motherboard and I updated the bios to the latest ver. 1.2. After that when cold booting the motherboard does not initialize usb you have to press delete to enter setup...

move the sata connection for your bootable HDD to another port like 3 or 4 and the bios will detect then run bios setup to boot from the sata 3 or 4 and it works like normal, must be a bug in sata 1 and 2. had same issue trying to install win7 x64. Win 7 refuses to detect sata DVD drive, moved it on the MB and it installed fine.

I have no idea why you would go from an agp to a pci. Agp has like 8x the banwidth of pci.I'll assume the agp slot went bad. If you can get into bios before you lose the display,change the display from agp to "init pci first",save & re-boot. See if that works,then when in windows install the drivers right away. If that doesn't work, during boot at the splash screen, press f8 & select "safe mode" with networking. This should let you get into windows so you can remove the old agp drivers,then re-boot into safe mode again & install the new drivers. Then re-boot normal & you should be ok. If not,that board has a big problem.

Will not run xp pro i'm stuck in 2000 mode mother board is ak77 pro 133 vt8233 will not run xp pro i've been told im pretty much sol. Is this true?

If you have a valid Win XP Pro CD and want to install the operating system you'll need to format your hard disk drive. If you have allot of data on you're hard disk drive, (In Win 2000) Suggest you create a second partition within the free space of you're hdd and install windows XP Pro. Boot you're system with the XP CD. Pay close attention to the display screens. Follow the instructions for creating a second partition.
Format the new partition. (Quick). Install windows XP on the new partition. Once completed you can copy your personal data to win XP.
If you choose to keep the win 2000 partition and you do not wish to have a dual boot system than remove/delete the root files from the 2000 partition. These files; Autoexec.bat and Boot.ini. You're new XP Boot.ini should read like this;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
Once you're satisfied an no longer need win 2000 use windows diskmgmt.msc from the run command to delete the win 2000 partition.
Win 2000 uses a FAT16 where Win XP uses the FAT NTFS.

Cheers!
Mike

New build pc no boot... black screen

Try to remove the battery from the MB, and next time you try to install WIN XP, when you are asked how to format your drive, chose quick NTFS formatting; disable floppy drive in BIOS, because it might try to boot from it (and I suppose you don't have one), and in boot sequence (BOOT DEVICE PRIORITY) set cd-dvd as first, and HDD as second, and turn off any other device as bootable

And express gate is a browser included in your ASUS motherboard that lets you boot up in seconds and enjoy your stuff even your OS is not fully loaded yet..

Reinstall and during the install press F6 when it ask if would like to install 3rd party drivers and have the driver disk for your hard drive ready and install those when ask.once it is done it should complete the xp install and restart correctly.

Reset the CMOS to defaults. Since it is not actually booting properly you will have to jumper it. Hopefully you have the manual and you need to look at the layout and find what jumpers need to be shorted to reset

Motherboard will not boot from Hard Drive

Go into your BIOS with the appropriate key (printed on the screen when you first turn the PC on).

Look around the various menus for a "boot order" or something to that effect.

I'd usually set it for CDROM then HDD... but as long as the hard disk is actually in the list before anything else with a bootable disc in it, you should be fine!
