Question about Fein Multimaster Rs - Msxe 636 - 2 Rs

1 Answer

A friend who bought a multimaster less than a year ago has had his start a loud 'clattering', dry, noise, and the gearbox started to get hot. The output shaft now has about the same amount of slop as the total movement should be. It is one of the quick attach type. I bought one of the allen key attach type, and have found in the past with various 'name brand' tools, drills, angle grinders etc that they usually use a 'dry' type grease which soon throws off the necessary parts and they run dry until colapse. I wish to open the gearbox and use a quality 'teflon' based grease or similar to prolong its life. How does the gearbox come apart please?

Fein is an excellent tool and has an excellent warranty that will be void the moment you open the gearbox. I do not recommend this action. Fein is quick and responsive, especially for a less than one year issue. Farmerbear at FixYa.com

Thanks for the advice, point taken.
It is just frustrating though when something as simple as the lubricant can make so much difference to the life of the machine.
    Thanks again.

The bearing or the motor is warn out they last 15 years in the case. In some rare case the brush ware out or the rely can catch fire, most central vacuum are not made to be oiled! Hot oil will catch on fire. Best to unplug the vacuum unit call a few shops and ask replacement motor cost, if you remove the Vac and take to them it will cost less.

The vacuum is probably getting hot and the thermal sensor in the motor is shutting it off and then allowing it to come back on after it cools down. You mentioned replacing the secondary filters, replace the exhaust filter too.
If replacing all the filters did not solve it you may have a clog or restriction somewhere causing the loss of suction and the overheating.

While using my mutimaster it started going slow and got very hot

Hello. Regularly blow out the interior of the power tool from outside via the ventilation
openings with dry, oil-free compressed air;
always wear eye protection when doing this.

Most likely, your tool has debris inside which is preventing the normal cooling from occurring. J.

Wind tunnel supreme sounds very loud

Sounds like a bad motor, you have a years warranty on this, take it in for warranty repair. You will void the warranty if you mess with it.

Load noise at start-up goes away after a minute, but there is no suction.

If the brush roll and motor runs and sounds ok, then that is an indication of a clog, either in the hose or the dirt inlet down by the brush roll. You should have a years warranty on this, if you can't figure it out, then take it into Sears and get it repaired.

Vacuum problem

Check the brush roll, do the ends turn freely, if not, replace it. Could have a clog in the hose or the dirt inlet by the brush roll, the other could be a bad motor.

Not oscillating

Hope this helps!
Inside the gearbox there is what should be a 2 pronged fork you may only be able to see 1 of these the other may be broken, the fork goes each side of the armature bearing. If the fork isnt broke it may be the armature bearing that fits inside the fork.
Hope that helps. Sean
