Question about Dell Dimension 4600 PC Desktop
If it was running slow and now nothing at all happens when you press the power button, your power supply has probably died. Be careful replacing a power supply, if you accidentally get into the power supply itself, even with it unplugged it could kill you. DO NOT TRY TO REPAIR POWER SUPPLIES EVER! They are cheap and easy to replace, however dell has proprietary power supplies so you can't just go pick up a new one at the store. You must contact dell and order a new one. Once you have the part spend the few dollars to have it installed by a professional. If you are getting some action when starting (sounds, lights, ect.) it could be any number of things, but judging by the slow down I would say overheating. Again spend a few dollars to have a professional look for signs of heat damage and replace and bad components (hopefully not your system board) and install a new fan or additional cooling methods to prevent in the future.
