Question about Ovens

Stoves 600G Hob Model No 0590 42452 Purchased 1997 Electrode for ignitor on one of burner rings has lost part of ceramic collar. Result - a spark is still produced when Ignition button is pressed but spark is too weak / too low down on electrode pillar to ignite the gas (I suspect that the gas will ignite if left on long enough for gas to accumulate , and sink to level at which spark is produced - but by then there will be a large volume of gas which will ignite explosively when it does contact the spark. NOT a good scenario) Questions :- a) How easy is it to replace the Electrode? Is it just a "plug fit" into wiring in base of hob below burner ? b) Is there a danger of the screw which secures the Electrode to the burner base having become "heat sealed" in position and therefore become difficult to remove without causing damage to the fitting base which will therefore need more extensive repair with extra replacement parts. Can you suggest suitable techniques ? c) Can you suggest a source of supply for the necessary part(s) ?

A) yes, it's quite easy to replace it, it's just a push fit.
b)not very likely but possible; the only thing you can do is to try to remove it and see what happens - in any case the damage will be done by shocks, not constant force, so be careful.

We have a Whirlpool Gas Range, model SF357PEKQ. When I start the bake feature, you can hear the gas flow, the ignitor click (about 4 times) yet there is no ignition of the gas (flame doesn't start)....

Whirlpool had some grounding issues with some of their electronic ignition ranges. Make sure your outlet is grounded first. Then you might need to make sure the bake burner itself is grounded very good against the range frame. I have put star washers between the burner and frame and tightened very tight, that sometimes helps. Also make sure the holes in the burner under the spark electrode are clear from debris. Sometimes the burning of gas leaves a residue that can stop up the holes and not let the gas flow out where the spark is hitting the burner. Hope that helps.

I have a whirlpool gas oven model # SF367LEKB and the oven will not ignite. You can hear the ignitor clicking but it will not light. The broiler and four burners work fine. This happened several months...

Hello,
What you need to check is if the spark is strong at the bake burner. To do that remove the oven floor and the flame spreader under the oven floor, set the oven to bake and look for a good bright spark. If the spark is good the bake burner needs to be replaced,if it's a weak spark the electrode(spark Plug) will be needed.
The part numbers are

Bake burner 8054077
Electrode 8054129
They could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at;
searspartsdirect.com
apdepot.com
repairclinic.com
assuredparts.com
applianceparspros.com

I hope this will help youto beable to repair your oven,

I have an electrolux EOG6330 gas oven and when I light the grill the igniter continues to spark, the only wayto stop it,is to turn the grill off.Any body know what causes it and how to sort it?

Hello dishboy,

There are 2 possibilites causing that

1) The electrode(spark plug) for the grill is is built up with a bunch of grime and not telling the spark module the burner is lit and turn off the spark. The electrode could be cleaned with the green srubby side if a kitchen sponge,or relpaced.

2) The electrode is telling the spark module to turn off but the spark module isn't responding, to turn off the spark. The spark module would need to be replaced

I hope this helps,

Hi, 3 of the 4 oven hobs have failed to work on the 720ef. only 1 of them heats up now. when you turn the knob of the failed hobs only 1 out of the 3 makes the click noise but still doesnt heat up,...

Normally the 720ef is the oven, the hob is a separate unit and in my case is a STOVES 600G gas unit. Your unit may have a built on hob but the handbook for the 720ef does not detail this. In my case the hob ID is on the lower right hand side of the unit.
I think you will find that the elements may have failed but you will need to identify the hob to ensure correct replacements. Normally the element rating is on the base of the element. The handbook will tell you how to take the thing to pieces. It is possible that the hob element controls have failed but unlikely for all three or it may be a combination of both parts. I think you may have to contact an electrician to test everything to sort this out.

I have replaced a Kelvinator hob with a ceramic hob. It works but the owen is not working. What is the problem?

There are possibly a number of options. It could be that in wiring the hob in you have disturbed the wiring for the oven. Normally the oven works off the main oven control switch on the panel and the hob could be wired into something else.
Is the oven totally dead no power at all for everything, or is the clock running but the oven will not switch on?

Hi, I replaced the right side ignitor module and now the ignitors spark vigorously and the burners light but the ignitors won't spot sparking and sometimes keep sparking several seconds after I turn off...

There are a few things to check for. Make sure the electrode ( the small metal piece that the spark comes off from ) is clean and the holes in the burner are clean, use a pin or paper clip to clean out the burner holes and NOT a tooth pick as these can break off and make things worse. The next thing to check for are theignition switches under the surface control knobs, the switches can twist and break and keep the spark module on and the spark keeps "clicking" even when the burner is light. If every thing looks good, you may have a bad spark module, replace it. Sometimes cleaning can get moisture into the surface switches, try drying them with an hair dryer to see of this will help.

thanks.keep updated and please do accept the solution.

VDSC 365-40, Suspected right side ignitor box bad. Repairman came, obviously didn't know Viking, tore into unit and confirmed bad ignitor box. Estimated $450 to repair. I put in new box myself. Works...

You have to identify the thermocouple by the flame. Some units run sparks constantly to insure that tha flame stays lit. If you see the thermocouple bulb by the flame it is bad and needs replaced (he may have bypassed it also let me know)

It would be helpful if you have a multi meter. Sorry you are having trouble with the repair man. I hope I can talk you through this but if he has made a mess it could be 10 times more work for you. Txtooltime@aol.com

The bottom oven on my stoves cooker ignites but then constantly clicks and will not stop until the gas dial is switched off. Can any one give me a clue as to why? Thanks

As an ex stoves enginneer, the problem may be one of three faults;
1. cracked electrode, what creats the spark in the oven
2.electrode lead has melted.
3. faulty ignition generator.
Try takin the lead off the electrode and placing it in the oven flame, if this stops the clicking, then replace the electrode.
