Question about ASUS A8N-SLI Motherboard

1 Answer

Hi from Portugal. I have got a mobo a8n-sli SE and im having trouble connecting my new wd 64mb 1gb green sata HD. I already have got 2 working hd´s, one IDE 128gb and one Sata 320gb and now i bought that new hd which disk manager cant find, so i cant format/partition it. My first question is does my new hd should work with my kinda oldie moboard asus a8n-sli se ??? or the size of the disk is just to big ??? I have all sata configs in my mobo bios AUTO and when i reboot it shows 4 sata slots, first being my 320g sata old hd. Out of ideias, tryed software, new cables, new hd alone, together with other sata, all 3 at the same time even tryed in a usb case external disk hd. SAVE ME !!! LOL

Hi, Thanks for using fixya.

Go into the bios stettings and check the intergrated video graphics are disabled. If you can't see the settings replace the motherboard again.

No video after replacing chip fan

Try a different video-card -- a "no-spin" fan and "no-video" implies a dead video-card (or at least a video-card that is not "seated' properly).

Check that the PC-speaker leads are connected to the motherboard, so that you could hear any "beep" codes. There should be one "beep" to indicate 'OK', or multiple "beeps" (bad RAM, no video-card detected).

If I bought a SATA dvd drive, where would I connect it to? Does it take SATA dvd, or does it still need to use IDE only?

This MoBo has 4 SATA connectors. Assuming you have one or two hard drives just plug it into one of the spare ports. If you are unsure, carefully follow the data cable from a hard drive to the MoBo to find the ports.

What amd cpus does this mobo support? are there any that I can get off newegg for this mobo? and which sli connector should i get from Asus? like what length?

939 pin Athlon 64 X2 / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 are the supported CPU's.
For the SLI connector, it's a 2 1/2 inch connector. (63.5mm).

2nd sata connected and xp won't boot

Hi,
It seems you have not made the second SATA the slave of first SATA. You'll have to fix the jumper pin in the designated slot to make the second SATA the slave. a1d66e3.jpg

Yuck! Soyo filed for bankruptcy in May and their website is gone!
You need to enable the SATA in the rom bios AND install the drivers for it; but, I hope you have the manual and the CD.

Installing 750GB SATA on Asus A8N-E Mobo

Hello there.

I would not update the BIOS unless you are experiencing any problems. Try installing the new hardware first and then if you do experience problems, think about upgrading the BIOS. The latest version is 1013 FYI.

The new hardware should be supported without a BIOS update, as long as you have Service Pack 2 in Windows XP or above then all your 750GB will be shown. As for the memory you should see it list the new size in the POST screen before Windows even loads, or inside Windows.

If you do have problems, then please post back and we can help.

Hope this helps.

Where to start

Disconnect the Maxtor drive completely. Play a game or what every & see if the system runs ok. Personnally you should be running a SATA as C:\ since it will transfer much faster than an IDE. Give it a try & post you're findings.
