I purchased a ProBook 4415s at an FDIC Auction froma failed bank. I got it home, they come with no hard drive, slipped in a new drive and BANG - BIOS Password, I have not found a method to remove it yet. ...

The process of removing a BIOS password is long but not impossible. I've tailor made a solution fit exactly for your predicament.

Important (Please read befor you proceed)
Whichever method you choose when flashing, the BIOS not only the password, but also all the other configuration data will be reset to the factory defaults. So when you are booting for the first time after you have flashed the BIOS, you should enter the CMOS configuration menu and fix up some things. When you boot Windows, it may happen that it finds some new device, because of the new configuration of the BIOS, in this case you'll probably need the Windows installation CD because Windows may ask you for some external files.

WARNING!!! Make sure your laptop is unplugged before opening it up. Ground yourself before handling any components inside a PC to reduce the risk of electrostatic discharge.
If you don't know how to configure your BIOS, don't mess with it. You can damage your PC!! Rather get a qualified technition to hep you.

There are a few ways to reset the BIOS password as listed below.

•Using a manufacturers backdoor password to access the BIOS.
•Reset the CMOS using the jumpers or solder beads.
•Removing the CMOS battery for at least 10 minutes.
•Using a professional service.

Standard BIOS backdoor passwords
The first and easiest way to bypass a BIOS password is to try one of these standard manufacturer's backdoor passwords:

AWARD BIOS
AWARD SW, AWARD_SW, Award SW, AWARD PW, _award, awkward, J64, j256, j262, j332, j322, 01322222, 589589, 589721, 595595, 598598, HLT, SER, SKY_FOX, aLLy, aLLY, Condo, CONCAT, TTPTHA, aPAf, KDD, ZBAAACA, ZAAADA, ZJAAADC, (eight blank spaces), ALFAROME, ALLY, ALLy, aLLY, aLLy, aPAf, award, AWARD?SW, AWKWARD, IOSTAR, CONDO, condo, d8on, djonet, J256, J262, j262, j322, j332, J64, LKWPETER, Lkwpeter, PINT, pint, SER, SKY_FOXSYXZ, SKY_FOX, syxz, SYXZ, TTPTHA, ZAAAADA, djonet, %øåñòü ïpîáåëîâ%, %äåâÿòü ïpîáåëîâ%

AMI BIOS
AMI, A.M.I., AMI SW, AMI_SW, BIOS, PASSWORD, HEWITT RAND, Oder, AAAMMMII, AMI?SW, CONDO, LKWPETER, MI, PASSWORD.

Other passwords you may try (for AMI/AWARD or other BIOSes)
LKWPETER, lkwpeter, BIOSTAR, biostar, BIOSSTAR, biosstar, ALFAROME, Syxz, Wodj

Note: Remember that passwords are Case Sensitive. The last two passwords in the AWARD BIOS list are in Russian.

Phoenix Backdoor BIOS Passwords
BIOS, CMOS, phoenix, PHOENIX

Other Manufcaturers Backdoor Passwords: (manufacturer name - password)
VOBIS and IBM - merlin
Dell - Dell
Biostar - Biostar
Compaq - Compaq
Enox - xo11nE
Epox - central
Freetech - Posterie
IWill - iwill
Jetway - spooml
Packard Bell - bell9
QDI - QDI
Siemens - SKY_FOX
SOYO - SY_MB
TMC - BIGO
Toshiba - Toshiba

If you have access to MS-DOS
You can reset the BIOS to its default values using the MS-DOS tool DEBUG (type DEBUG at the command prompt. Do it in pure MS-DOS mode, not from a MS-DOS shell window in Windows). Once you are in the debug environment enter the following commands:

AMI/AWARD BIOS
O 70 17
O 71 17
Q

PHOENIX BIOS
O 70 FF
O 71 17
Q

GENERIC
Invalidates CMOS RAM.
Should work on all AT motherboards
(XT motherboards don't have CMOS)
O 70 2E
O 71 FF
Q

Note: The first letter is a "O" not the number "0". The numbers which follow are two bytes in hex format.

Resetting BIOS via hardware (CMOS jumpers and CMOS battery)
If you can't get into Windows and the standard backdoor passwords didn't work then you will need to flash the BIOS via the motherboard's hardware.

NOTE: Please read the important note at the begining of this section before to try any of these methods.

Using the jumpers to reset the BIOS password and settings
The best way to flash the BIOS via hardware is to plug, unplug, or switch a jumper on the motherboard, (if the jumper is normally on position 1-2, you have to put it on position 2-3, or viceversa). The 3-pin jumper should near the power supply on the motherboard, typically labeled "clear cmos" or "reset bios". To find the correct jumper you should read the motherboard's manual.
slasher_x_45.jpg
Once you've located the correct jumper, switch it (or plug or unplug it, depending from what the manual says) while the computer is turned OFF. Wait a couple of seconds then put the jumper back to its original position.
If after flashing the BIOS, the computer won't boot when you turn it on, turn it off, and wait some seconds before to retry.

Removing the CMOS battery
If you can't find the jumper or if it doesn't exist, you can remove the battery that keeps the BIOS memory powered. It's a button-size battery somewhere on the motherboard.

The laptop CMOS battery is shown below.
slasher_x_47.jpg
Disconnect it for 15-30 minutes or more, then reinsert it and the data in the BIOS memory should be reset. If at first it doesn't work, try to remove the battery overnight. Once the battery has been reinserted power up the PC and see if the reset was successful.

I am getting a Memory Battery is Low - how do I recharge or replace teh memory batter. I only load AAA batteries into the equipment?

The memory battery is normally charged by the AA batteries. Leave the batteries in for 5 days. If this doesn't recharge the memory battery then it needs replacing. It's recommended that you send the unit back to Garmin to have it replaced. The memory battery is a Panasonic VL 1220. If you want to attempt changing the battery yourself there's some information on how to do so at http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/lofiversion/index.php?t38975.html

I want 2 remove password from bios

The BIOS password is stored in CMOS memory that is maintained while the PC is powered off by a small battery, which is attached to the motherboard. If you remove this battery, all CMOS information (including the BIOS password) will be lost.

When i open garmin 12xl it gev me vois when i press page bottom this message show me (Memory Battery is Low ) how to solve this

The memory battery is a BTR2032 or a CR2032. This is one of those coin type batteries. To replace it you need to open the case and depending on when your unit was made you will either find a battery hold or the battery will have wires soldered to it.

The batteries are cheap. Usually under $1. Getting someone to change might cost a bit. If this battery goes out then your unit will forget settings and so on and have to reload everything from scratch every time you use it. It will work fine but might take 5-10 minutes (depends on how many sattilites it can see) to get running.

The almanac will need to be rebuilt or whatever it does. This can take ages even with a good sky view. Leave it with a wide sky view on a roof with external power ideally for at least 30 minutes.

The special memory battery inside may also be dead and not charge up again - it relies on minute trickle charge from the AA batteries. The memory battery can be replaced - it's a vandium pentoxide by Panasonic, type VL1220.
