What is the difference between installing windows xp and windows 98

Drivers are not interchangeable between different versions on Windows. Each version of Windows will have a different driver for the same piece of equipment.

If you advise the make and model of your MP3 player I may be able to advise where you can get XP & Vista drviers from.

Install the Audio Drivers suited for Windows 98. Let me know your audio device so that I can send the link for the audio drivers.

Windows 7 cannot be installed on FAT 32 system, which is required by 98. Windows 7 needs NTFS which may actually cause the issue as it is not compatible with FAT32.

Are all of the O/s are in different partitions?

You cannot install 98 directly on your system slave drive, but there is a way to install it.

1) disconnect your primary drive
2) make your slave drive as primary.
3) install 98
4) Connect your actual primary drive again and start your system

XP records your mac id of your motherboard and 98 does not records, the other way is, you can install both the OPS on your one primary drive by creating different partitions, you will need to full format your drive first.

1) Full format your primary drive.
2) Create partitions.
3) Install 98.
4) Install XP in different drive of your same hard disk

You will be able to see both your OPS when you start your system.

According to the Maxtor website, this device is only supported on Windows Vista, XP, and 2000. It does not work with Windows 95/98/ME.

DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS 98 AND WINDOWS XP ARE DIFFERENT, YOU NEED TO INSTALL THE CORRECT ON EFOR THE OS YOU NEED

I can not find a win 98 driver for your printer on the HP website. DO yu have the instalation disk that was writen for win 98? If not try installing the printer through  the control panel. Either printers/fax or through install new hardware.The first being the preference. Some of the win OSs have printr drivers already installed.
If this does not work out, then the printer has no drivr available for that version of windows and you ewither have to upgrade to Xp or use a different printer which has a driver for win 98.

If XP will not install from the CD or if you have a new drive with no operating system onit yet try these:

Install Windows XP from the hard drive with Windows 98 already installed:

Boot Windows 98
Insert the XP CD into your CD reader
Explore Windows XP through My Computer
Copy i386 folder to C:\
Go into C:\i386 folder and double click on winnt32.exe to launch the setup from the hard drive

Install Windows XP from DOS (ie. no OS on a new hard drive):

Boot with a Windows 98 Start Up disk
Insert the Windows 98 CD into the CD reader
Run smartdrv.exe from the Win98 directory on the windows 98 CD (file caching)
Type cd.. to back up to the root directory
Insert Windows XP CD into the CD reader
Copy the i386 folder to C:\
Go into C:\i386 folder on C: and type winnt.exe to launch the setup from the hard drive.

This is a little difficult but it can B done :) Firstly I dunno if ya need to re-format ya drive? perhaps first ya could try to "Repair" of Win98? If that doesn't work,then, perhaps ya may have to re-format. If the Win98 is on a SEPARATE drive or Partition this also makes a difference....
