    Hi,

    * Check whether the full disk is formatted.
    * Check for bad sectors by scanning it.
    * If its under warranty, pls ask for replacement.

    Take care.

Try using a partitioning utility like gparted, pmagic, partition magic etc. this will tell you whether your drive is full, partitioned, how much is used and if the partition takes up the full disk. also, try doing scandisk on it to see if there are errors and to get the errors fixed

Does my d530 CMT have a SATA connector?

Answers to your questions:
1. Yes
2. Very likely
3. a Google search should show you what the connectors look like.
4 HP/Compaq do a good job of providing documentation. Go to hp.com and put in your system information. You should be able to locate motherboard diagrams there. If you can't let me know and I'll try to locate them.

What new HDD will match my Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8?

Mark,
You can use any size HDD in your computer as a slave and it does not have to be an exact match for the maxtor. You will however need the make sure that the connections on the new drive match. For example SATA drives will not attache to an IDE cable and vice versa. The drive that you mentioned is an IDE style drive so unless your MOBO has SATA connectors on it you will need to buy an IDE/EIDE drive.

well i think you could get away with 120 gigs. if you go over that you should update your bios and run a utility like Big Drive Enable--

there are others out there though.

Maxtor harddrive jumper setting

If you only have a single hard drive (or multiple hard drives for that matter), you should leave the jumper setting as "Cable Select" or CS.

See if this PDF matches your hard drive:
