Hi,
Try using the usb mouse. This jumping occurs when the touch pad sensitivity is too much.If you have an option you can reduce the sensitivity of the touch pad.If still happens you can install the software called as touch freeze which freezes the touch pad while you type. This surely solves the problem.
You can download the touch freeze from below website
http://code.google.com/p/touchfreeze/downloads/list
Thank You

How do you stop the cursor from jumping on an elitebook folio 9470m

go to control panel / mouse to open the mouse properties window. along the top of the window should be several tabs. select the tab for touchpad or maybe advanced properties. this tab allows you to adjust the touch sensitivity of the mousepad, momentum, and other properties. adjusting to make it less sensitive may reduce the tendency of the cursor to jump or move on its own. failing that, go for an external mouse!

Stop my cursor jumping about

That must be a wire mouse the cable might be getting a bit frayed inside the sheath if it's a ball mouse, try taking the ball out and cleaning the ball and all the rollers. And if it is an optical mouse on bad surface. Put a piece of white paper on your desk and try it on top of that.

Cursor jumps around

Depending on the sensitivity and settings of the touchpad, it may register undesired motions as mouse controls, causing the cursor to jump erratically. The software drivers that includes with its systems have sensitivity options that help alleviate this problem and ensure that only deliberate touchpad motions and taps cause the cursor to move.

Click on the Start menu and open the Control Panel. Choose an "Icon View" option from the "View by" dropdown menu, then click the "Mouse" icon. Navigate to the "Device Settings" tab and click on the Synaptics device in the list. If you have installed and use custom software other than a Synaptics application for controlling the touchpad, select it instead. Click the "Settings" button. Click the "+" symbol to expand the "Pointing" section in the left frame, and then the "Sensitivity" section. Click on "PalmCheck." If you have replaced the Synaptics drivers, the menu may use a different set of options. Click and drag the bar to the right, closer to the "Maximum" setting. An increased PalmCheck setting will help decrease cursor jumping due to accidental palm activations, a common occurrence when typing. Click on "Touch Sensitivity." Click and drag the bar to the right, closer to the "Heavy Touch" end. This will ensure light brushes by fingers or accidental activations by other objects will not cause the cursor to jump. Click "Apply" to test the settings, and "OK" when satisfied to save the changes and close the window.

When I am typing he cursor jumps around

It is a fault with Lenovo laptops. My cursor jumps all the time, no matter what software I am using. It is NOT the 'sensitivity' of the touchpad, for my cursor jumps even when I am not typing, even if I don't touch the laptop! I can set the cursor to a certain point on a document and then, after about 30 seconds, it will just jump to another point, even if I am in another room.

Cursor jumps to the buttom right corner of the screen

I've got the same problem. I've personally identified it as the digitizer being triggered by the fan. You'll notice that if you rotate the screen away from the fan area, the jumping will stop. Also, if you don't run the computer too hot, the jumping won't happen. I told HP about the problem a while ago but they ignored me. I've been using my laptop for the past year with the digitizer disabled in the device manager.
