The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Testimonial: "Thanks for that info. The card cannot be directly connected to the pc. I now think there should a cable (u.s.b.) connection. I have no such cable."

I was downloading my pictures from my kodak easy share v1003 to the easy share program. the camera was recognized the downloading showed up as downloading to a file foler by date. it finished downloading,...

I?ll be fine. All your original pictures are on the C drive. Unless you have changed the directory onto which you save when transferring: You can find the pictures under C-Drive, my pictures. The camera might need to be recharged. The camera doesn't charge from the computer while transferring pics. You will need to switch the camera off before the camera will start charging.

Sony DSC H-7 resetting picture counter when downloading

That's what the camera is supposed to do. If it always started back at 1, you wouldn't be able to download new pictures because your computer would keep telling you that those pictures already exist.

I get an error message when downloading my pictures of 802a006. When Im trying to view the pictures on my camera it reads unidentified image. What can I do to save or repair these pictures?

Here is what you can try.
Don't use the camera for downloading the pictures.
Buy a card reader.. prices vary from a few $$ on Ebay (for instance) to maybe near $20.00 for the best kinds. Also many printers now come with the card readers built in. Use the card reader for downloading the pictures from your card from your camera. Since I repair a number of kinds of cameras, I use a card reader...no software needed, no drivers.
Download the pictures in a folder (preferably on C, or another drive in it's own folder, not in my documents) and then use a program to view, edit or save to cd or DVD.
A nice thing about a card reader is that with most newer operating systems the card reader will be detected as a mass storage device.

Downloading problems

Fuji S5200/5600 are indeed pretty slow to download pictures when directly linked to a computer throught the USB port.
The only solution to speed up downloading is to remove from the camera the XD card and put it in a card reader provided with USB 2 interface.
Picasa, too, is not the fastest program to copy pictures on your PC. In my experience, XN View
(free) is faster than Picasa in copyng pics.
