The Magnetron have a cut out thermostat, therefore the magnetron is over heated.
1.Check first the ventilation grill if it is clean.
2. Ventlitation fan if is working if not replace.
3. If the baove are ok then you need a new magnetron.
4. There is a very small chance that is the control board but we don't sagest to replace since the cost of new one is almost the cost of a new microwave.

Oven accidentally operated without any contents and cut out with a smell of burning. Subsequently the oven only runs for approximately 22 seconds before stopping. Any ideas?

It will require a new magnetron and possibly power supply for it. The magnetron will destroy itself if it has nowhere for the energy to go.

The microwave cut out after 20 seconds

22 seconds maybe? The 22 seconds is the giveaway.

In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Shuts Off after 22 seconds

Time to buy a new microwave as it sounds as if the control panel is defective. A new control panel for this micro will run about 95 to 120 bucks + labor depending on where you buy it. I happen to like slightly burnt popcorn as well!! Nothing wrong with thats, as they say great minds think alike.
