How was mauna loa formed

OK, the whole Hawaiian Island chain is volcanic, formed from volcanoes which rose in turn from the ocean floor, erupted, formed an island around, then became less and less active in turn as the whole island chain moves away to the NW at 2 - 4 in per year.

Mauna Loa is one of 5 volcanoes which have formed the main island Hawaii. It is still active, and is a wide flattish volcano 4169 metres above sea level (13 679 ft).

It probably started erupting under the sea about 700 000 yrs ago, and rose above the surface about 400 000 yrs ago. It is a young volcano in geological terms as the oldest rocks found on its surface are 200 000 yrs old.

There is heaps more info here, but take care as some teachers do not like you to quote Wikipedia as a reference.

GE Profile refriderator PSC25MSWA is frosting/icing on bottom of Refriderator side

Try defrosting entire unit. Put all food, freezer and refrigerator sides in coolers with ice. Unplug unit and wait at least 24 hours for unit to completely defrost, if neccessary open doors, plug unit back in and see how unit functions. By doing this lines that carry freon should become unclogged.

Frost in freezer, fan in freezer sometimes changes speeds, low pitch or humming noise, manualy defrosted it 1 month ago seemed to be fine for two weeks, vegies freeze in drawer. hotpoint hss25gfta 5 yrs old

If the defrost thermostat is bad it will need to be replaced, otherwise you will have to continuously manually defrost the unit. The noise you hear is probably the fan hitting the ice. The defrost thermostat assists in melting that ice about every eight hours.

The refriderator is not cooling properly but the freezer is freezing

A defrost system problem could be preventing the refrigerator from cooling properly. If you do see excessive frost on the evaporator in the freezer, you may be able to restore proper cooling in the refrigerator by storing your food in an ice chest and then shutting off the refrigerator/freezer and letting the unit completely defrost for about 24 hours. Leave the doors open for air circulation. After the frost on the evaporator has defrosted, plug the unit back in and see if the refrigerator and freezer will cool properly.
If there is still same problem then you need to replace evaporator fan.

Hope this helps.

Freezer coils frosted and refrigerator is not cold. I had this problem about 5 years ago, and it was the defrost control board (something like that). Do you know the correct part name.

The part you are referring to is the adaptive defrost assembly.

You can purchase it online here.

For a diagram depicting the part click here. Its # 13 on the top right.

Warninig: Remove the refrigerator from the mains outlet to prevent shock and use safety gloves before performing any repairs.

Before replacing the board check the defrost heater and thermostat for continuity with a multimeter to ensure they are working properly.

To test defrost thermostat set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place aprobe on each terminal. The multimeter should display a reading ofzero when the thermostat is cold and a reading of infinity when it iswarm (40 to 90 degrees F depending on the model). If the thermostatdoes not pass this test it should be replaced.

To test the defrost heater set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should display a reading somewhere between zero and infinity. If the reading is not between those two extremes the heating element should be replaced.

GE frig/freezer side by side about 5 yrs

Bad defrost timer, most likely. It is not defrosting the evaporator, and therefore, no air can be passed over it. Hope this helps

Water leaking from bottom of refriderator

dear ricurtsmith..
your fridge has a water trap pan underneath it to catch the water from the drain line when your fridge automatic defrost.
either the pan is not in place proper or the pan may not be underneath, period. or pan could be stopped up/need cleaning. or if pan is made of plastic, it could be cracked.
it is located at the bottom of fridge where you see something loos like a grilled vent. remove that bottom piece to get to the drain pan.(it just slides out!!) good luck & hope i was helpful.

Only 3.5 yrs old stops getting cold...

It has a defrost problem.  If the evaporator gets totally frosted up it can't circulate the cold air.  It will be one of 3 things.  I will list by most common.  1.  Defrost thermostat (clips onto the evaporator).  2.  Defrost timer.  3. Defrost heater.  If you have some basic tools and a multimeter I can walk you thru the checkout.  I would need the complete model # from the sticker inside the fridge section.  Let me know if I can help further.
