Hello, The USB cable is just a neans to connunicate between different hardware. In certain instances, it also doubles as a power cord. Windows needs a driver for your cellular phone, not for the cable. Windows detects the phone at the other end of the USB cable but it does not know how to communicate with it. That is why it needs a driver (a set of instructions, protocols, let just say an interpreter) between it and the phone. Download the driver for your phone from Samsung Website, and install it in your computer. Next time you connect it Windows will know how to interact with your phone.
You need to have the USB connection from your phone to your computer. A menu should automatically come up and ask what you want to do once the USB is plugged in. You will see when it is connected b/c at the bottem of the screen it will say "Found New Hardware" and it will "install" automatically.
I had this problem before, You have to specify what type of USB settings you want. go to phone settings, then USB settings and pick from "PC Studio", "Ask on connection" or "Mass Storage". hope that helps!
Connect the phone while the computer is off. Power on teh computer and it should detect a new USB hardware device. You should then see two new drive designations. 1 for the phone's memory and teh 2nd for the onboard memory card if you have one installed. Remember for the first connection the computer must be off when you connect the phone.
