Question about Sony Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a Sony 52KDL-52XBR4 that starting giving me issues about a year and a half after purchase. I think the problem happened after an earthquake. My wife told me that the TV shook front to back a lot, and almost fell over. Here are the symptoms: Right side of the screen has disturbance (like someone is moving the antenna and the picture is starting to lose it's integrity). Also, the center right side of the TV sometimes goes darker and looses some of it's color and can take a while to come back to normal. Also the right side of the screen has very heavy ghosting going on and is almost never correct. Please HELP! What part can I buy to have this TV up and running again? Sony wants $2300 to fix it!! What a scam!!!

Hi,
I do not think t-con board will fix your tv problem because it is lcd panel (screen) problem and t-con board is part of lcd panel, it comes attached with new lcd panel and tv needs new lcd panel (screen).
LCD Panel replacement is costly fix that is why Sony asking $2300
Thanks.

Hi,

To start with, there are more than couple of problem's with these sets. These are big monsters which often needs replacement than repair.

This is a common problem with this series. There could be probably 3 reasons for the same :-

1. Bad T conn Board
2. Bad LCD panel
3. Bad BM board.

There is a small paragraph i wanted to post from the service manual :-

I have a Sony 52KDL-52XBR4 that starting giving me - 352d209.jpg

Along with that Few Pics how the panel looks like :-

The most probable cause seems to be T conn board failure. Unfortunately, this part is not available alone. It is a part of panel. This means, either it is T conn board or LCD panel - You need to buy complete assembly which is much more expensive as compared to the cost of the product. This isn't a problem with Sony, infact all manufacturers are facing the same challenge. Buy a new TV would be the best option rather than replacement. Bad BM board is usually not a cause on these models. The BM board cost would be around $300 plus shipping and it is a non ref part. As i discuss, more probable is T conn Board, however after looking at the details and images, you believe that the Panel is correct, then it could be a BM board. But, i would advise to call a tech and then after careful inspection, he could order that part as buying the part only on speculation is never a good idea. If you have electronics repair experience, would be able to read schematics, could use electrical instruments and would be able to keep all precautions - i could try to send you the link for service manual for this model followed by few pointers. However, i guess Sony is aware that you need to replace LCD panel and that's why they quoted you the above price. $2300 to fix is more often for replacement of Panel.I know it is hard to bite the bullet, however the best option is to get a new TV or call up Sony and see,if they could offer you a goodwill gesture and lower the total cost.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

The link that you gave is a T conn board for Samsung.Sony's T conn board on your model is a part of LCD panel. It cannot be available as a single part.I wish i could have a better solution.

This is usually an indication that the power board has had an issue at one time or another. Does it fade a bit after the tv has been on for more than 10 minutes or so? This happened to my daughters LCD tv after I repaired the power board. The expense to replace a video driver board or an lcd panel is usually more expensive than the tv is worth unfortunately.

My Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR4 will power on but the screen stays black with no sound. What causes this?

Power supply regulator failure. The start voltage does not come to it from the main board. Check all connections that goes our from the power board to main board and vice versa; for any loose connection with its connecting sockets. Earthquake tiller viper 43cc engine will not start

I have the same issue, I thought it was the carburetor so I cleaned it and put it back together, same issue, I put a new carburetor on it same issue, has great spark, if I spray carb cleaner into it, it will start and run for a few seconds even throttle up, but then it dies, and will not start again without carb cleaner spray, and fuel is fresh and properly mixed, very confusing indeed.

Your system was an old carousel type CD changer. They do not make them anymore. The whole world is moving towards compact storage devices ( Hard disk / Flash drives ) and steering away from media like CD's , DVD's etc. Thanks to the internet, almost everything is available at your fingertips.
Today your system would be worth less than half of what you paid. In fact for half the amount you could pick up something similar with only one CD tray, but with a USB port for playing MP3 / Video files.
Check out this Sony 5 cd player for $450/-
