GE Spectra XL44 Oven Overheating

Our oven "overheats" for lack of a better term. There is an excessive amount of heat coming out of the stove-top vent (near back L burner) that it sets off the fire alarm in the nearby hallway. We have tried cleaning with self-clean but it also overheats during that operation. We have cleaned with standard oven cleaner and no change.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

It is a thermistore problem, if you replace the faulty thermic switch inside oven, it should work fine a gain

If you use self clean it is normal that you get a temperature higher than normal. Self cleaning procedure produce an high temperature to incinerate all dirt residual in the oven.
Normally you should not use oven cleaning solution on a self-cleaning oven.
Run complete self cleaning procedure again (disconnect alarm while you do this) to get rid of eventual cleaning solution residuals, then check again if it overheats after this.
A certain amount of hot air is in any case pumped off the oven normally. If this is enough to start up the alarm, then you should move the oven to a different place.

GE XL44 Gas Stove and Oven. Everything works normal except the oven which stopped working suddenly (no flame). Couldn't find the manual to check troubleshooting guide.

The oven uses a silicone carbide ignitor which requires 3.6 amps or better to open the gas safety valve.
If you don't see any glow from it then it is either blown or the gas valve has gone bad. If it is glowing but not real bright it probably is weak.

I suspect a faulty ignitor. It must draw a certain amount of amps to open the gas valve

Oven does not get to temp when it says its preheated

More than likely, its your oven thermometer thats taking a half hour to read correctly. The oven is probably getting there sooner. If you had a digital thermometer, the read would come quicker. So save your money, nothing wrong with your stove.

Gas oven is not working but broiler is working

Hi,
The problem usually is the ignitor. Even if it glows it may not be pulling enough current to open the gas valve. They also are very fragile and break easily.
This tip will help you also.

Bottom burner in my oven barely comes on, in turn, not heating my oven to the temperature that is selected. Top burner (or broiler seems to work fine). The gas stove is a GE XL44 and is 6 years old. Please...

You need a new t-stat control. Your element is fine. Give us a call with your complete model number and we'll get the right part out to you asap to get you ready for the winter.

Magic chef oven/stove top range not staying hot

Hi, It very well could be the ignitor. Sometimes they work at first and then will not open the gas valve later in cycle. You can set the oven to heat and watch the ignitor. If it glows and the gas will not ignite in 30 to 45 seconds, the igniter is getting weak. I jope this helps.
Please let me know if I can assit you further.
