Windows 7 Keyboard Shortcuts

Let's kick offwith keyboard shortcuts - the first thing every power user must memorize withworking with a new operating system. In Windows 7, we've uncovered several newsets of essential time-saving shortcuts that will make your mouse jealous withneglect.
Alt + P
In Windows Explorer, activate an additional file preview pane tothe right side of the window with this new shortcut. This panel is great forpreviewing images in your photos directory.
Windows + + (plus key)
Windows + - (minus key)
Pressing the Windows and plus or minus keysactivates the Magnifier, which lets you zoom in on the entire desktop or open arectangular magnifying lens to zoom in and out of parts of your screen. You cancustomize the Magnifier options to follow your mouse pointer or keyboardcursor. Keep in mind that so far, the Magnifier only works when Aero desktop isenabled.
Windows + Up
Windows + Down
If a window is not maximized, pressingWindows + Up will fill it to your screen. Windows + Down will minimize thatactive window. Unfortunately, pressing Windows + Up again while a window isminimized won't return it to its former state.
Windows + Shift + Up
Similar to the shortcut above, hitting thesethree keys while a window is active will stretch it vertically to the maximumdesktop height. The width of the window will however stay the same. PressingWindows + Down will restore it to its previous .
Windows + Left
Windows + Right
One of the new features of Windows 7 is the abilityto automatically make a window fill up half of your screen by dragging to theleft or right. This pair of shortcuts performs the same function without yourmouse. Once a window is fixed to one side of the screen, you can repeat theshortcut to flip it to the other side. This is useful if you're extending adesktop across multiple monitors, which prevents you from executing this trickwith a mouse.
Windows + Home
This shortcut performs a similar function tohovering over a window's peek menu thumbnail in the Taskbar. The active windowwill stay on your desktop while every other open application is minimized.Pressing this shortcut again will restore all the other windows.
Windows + E
Automatically opens up a new Explorer window toshow your Libraries folder.
Windows + P
Manage your multiple-monitor more efficientlywith this handy shortcut. Windows + P opens up a small overlay that lets youconfigure a second display or projector. You can switch from a single monitorto dual-display in either mirror or extend desktop mode.
Windows + Shift + Left
Windows + Shift + Right
If you are using two or more displays (and whoisn't, these days?), memorize this shortcut to easily move a window from onescreen to the other. The window retains its and relative position on thenew screen, which his useful when working with multiple documents. Utilize thatreal estate!Windows + [Number]
Programs (and new instances) pinned to yourTaskbar can be launched by hitting Windows and the number corresponding to itsplacement on the Taskbar. Windows + 1, for example, launches the firstapplication, while Windows + 4 will launch the fourth. We realize that this isactually one key-press more than just clicking the icon with your mouse, but itsaves your hand the trouble of leaving the comfort of the keyboard.
Windows + T
Like Alt + Tab (still our all time favoriteWindows specific shortcut), Windows + T cycles through your open programs viathe Taskbar's peek menu.
Windows + Space
This combo performs the same function as movingyour mouse to the bottom right of the Taskbar. It makes every active windowtransparent so you can view your desktop. The windows only remain transparentas long as you're holding down the Windows key.
Ctrl + Shift + Click
Hold down Ctrl and Shift while launching anapplication from the Taskbar or start menu to launch it with fulladministrative rights.
Ctrl + Click
Hold down Ctrl while repeatedly clicking aprogram icon in the Taskbar will toggle between the instances of thatapplication, like multiple Firefox windows (though not browser tabs).

How do I enable a compaq laptop's keys

Compaq Presario computers provide users with a row of function keys for added keyboard functionality. Function keys can serve a dual purpose as well.
Function keys are located at the top of Compaq Presario keyboards.
By learning how function keys work on a Compaq Presario you can take advantage of time saving keyboard shortcuts.Purpose
Use function keys to access menus, save changes and create shortcut keys.
Various applications, including Microsoft Office, allow you to select a function key as a shortcut key for running specific tasks. These settings are usually found under the Tools, Settings or File menu.
Each Compaq Presario computer has twelve function keys.
The most common used keys are "F2," "F8," "F10" and "F12."
The first three are used mainly to access and use the Compaq BIOS. "F12" is used to access a set of run from options during the boot process.

How to Access
Access function keys on a Compaq Presario by pressing any of the keys on the top row of the keyboard. Access the key's dual purpose by first pressing the "Fn" key located on the bottom row of keys.
Use function keys as shortcut keys by pressing them anytime while in the desired application. Remember, you must set them as shortcut keys first.
Note that some programs may already have certain function keys set as shortcuts.
Open menus and view the shortcut keys beside each menu item before setting your own shortcuts.

Dual Uses Each function key has a dual use. Press "Fn" plus the desired function key for the key's other use.
Below each function number is a small picture within a square or rectangle.
This dictates the dual use. "F1" opens help and support. "F2" serves as a printer shortcut.
Open your homepage by pressing "F3."
If you use dual monitors, switch between monitors by using "F4." "F5" puts your computer in stand-by mode.
Quickly lock your computer by pressing "F6." "F7" and "F8" adjust the screen's contrast.
Play and pause your music in Windows Media Player or other default media player by using "F9."
Press "F10" to stop playing media. Skip ahead or rewind media by using "F11" and "F12."

Other "Fn" Keys

In addition to function keys, the "Fn" key is also provides other keys with a dual use.
Any key with a small square on the key has a dual purpose such as the "scroll," "insert" and "delete" buttons.
Since laptop keyboards have no number pads, certain keys serve as the number pad by pressing the "Fn" key.

What are the names of kyboard and its keys ?

it is only for a computer keyboard hope it help from you.

A computer keyboard serves as a main operating tool for accessing and inputting data into a computer. The keyboard features many functions and keys that a user may never use, but is still essential to some users. Understanding the keyboard can improve computer knowledge and use.

QWERTY Pad

The "QWERTY" pad is main sections of letters on the keyboard. These letters are mainly used for typing and also as shortcuts in programs like Windows Movie Maker, Adobe After Effects and computer games.
Number Pads

The far right side of the keyboard features a number pad that resembles a calculator. This number pad is essential for programs like Excel, but can also be used to input numbers as a typing function. More numbers are just above the "QWERTY" keyboard that also feature symbols when the "Shift" button is used.
Arrow Keys

The right bottom of a keyboard features four directional arrow keys. These keys provide navigation through word processing documents and also serve as scrolling functions in web browsers.
F Bar

The top of a keyboard features the "F Keys," a selection of keys that extends to "F12" on most keyboards. These keys serve different functions. For example, "Alt and F4" exits out of a program. "F1" will start the typing helper in word processing programs.
Extra Keys

New keyboard feature shortcut keys at the top of the keyboard. These include shortcuts like "Power," "Sleep Mode," "Calculator," "My Computer" and "Web." Some also include media controls for movies and music.

Try restoring shortcut keys to their original (default)settings.

Open Winword.

1.On the Tools menu, click Customize.
2.Click Keyboard.
3.In the Save changes in box, click the current document name or template (template: A file or files that contain the structure and tools for shaping such elements as the style and page layout of finished files. For example, Word templates can shape a single document, and FrontPage templates can shape an entire Web site.) that contains the shortcut key (shortcut key: A function key or key combination, such as F5 or CTRL+A, that you use to carry out a menu command. In contrast, an access key is a key combination, such as ALT+F, that moves the focus to a menu, command, or control.) assignments you want to restore.
4.Click Reset All.

Note:- Reset All removes your customized shortcut key assignments and restores the original Microsoft Word shortcut key assignments in the selected template or document.

How do I shift to the blue key functions on the keyboard

I've run into this a lot myself and personally find it annoying more than useful. While typing, your punctuation keys suddenly switch to their french functions. By defaul, Vista assigns a keyboard shortcut fo changing input languages.

This shortcut is ctrl+shift - a very easy combination to press by mistake. To solve this problem, just press crtl+shift until you're back to english. You can change this shortcut or disable it all together.

Open the control panel then click "change keyboards or other input methods" under "clock, language and region". In the window that pops up, click "change keyboards..." then select the "advanced key settings" tab. This is where you can edit and disable language related shortcuts. To change one, click on the profile and then click "change key sequence". Under "switch keyboard layout", select "unassigned" to disable that shortcut.

Keyboard `problem `strange `dash `appearing

Many programs extend the usefulness of the function keys by using key combinations. The most common combinations are Shift + a function key, Alt + a function key, and Crtl + a function key. These combinations can be very useful. For instance, in Microsoft Word, when any text is highlighted, pressing the Shift key plus the F3 key will change the case of the text from all caps, initial caps, to all lowercase. Shift + F7 will choose the Thesaurus command. These shortcuts allow you to access such functions with one keystroke rather than three or four mouse clicks.
