Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Maytag Gas Dryer D6612. It is not warming up, there is no glow from the little door on the lower right. Is ther a pilot light that needs to be relit? The gas company was here the other day messing around. I opened the little door and cannot see anything that looks like re-lite button.

So did they disconnect or do anything to the dryer?

  • ginaalex Sep 30, 2010

Not that I can see. They didn't come in the house. I wasn't physically here when they came, but they reset our hot water heater so that the water in the house was lukewarm at best. That I was able to re-adjust. The dryer is very old so I thought maybe they turned gas on and off and it blew out.

Okay, here is a couple of things to look for:

Heating element Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable. Thermal fuse On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.) Looking up a couple of other things.

First make sure you have gas, then open lower section of this dryer you shoul see screws you will see a place to relight the pilot , if you smell gas before doing anything then stop your repair, see if the pilot is lit then push the red button and hold it relight pilot hold this button for a few min's after it relights, if it dosent relight check power goign to gas valve near pilot . Gas units have very little problems you may have just lost gas pressure and need to relight it , let me no ! what you see and we wuill go from there

Have a Whirlpool Gas Dryer - model # lgr7646a spins but no heat

Thre is no pilot light. This dryer uses an ignitor (glow bar or coil).
Open the lower front "door" (small access door) and turn on dryer.
If the ignitor does not glow (bright orange), then the ignitor needs to be replaced ($60).
If it does glow, then the gas valve needs replacement ($60).
If it isd the valve, the internal spring is stuck. Do not try to repair it, you must replace it.

Maytag dryer pilot light

You might have a hot surface ignitor that if broken can fall off and be somewhat difficult to locate by sight having never replaced one before.
Look at the new parts base as thats all you may have showing.
The ignitor regarless of type is very close to the gas manifold temination
going into the combustion compartment.
Replacing the new ignitor BE CAREFUL not to touch or bump the ignitors surface or it may fry out before you leave! they break easily!
I would use magnetic nutdrivers, its either 1/4 or 5/16 inch on most everything, very handy for furnace and AC work too

Hot water heater went out when they replaced our dryer doesn't

Make sure the gas valve at the dryer is turned on. Dryers use a glow plug or electronic ignitor to light the gas. There is no pilot light. Plug the dryer in and start it. Look inside the front lower panel to see if the ignitor glows. If it does and the gas does not light then the gas to the dryer is probably turned off. Look for a valve in the supply line to the dryer. Also inside near the front underneath.

I have an older Maytag D8512 with an electric igniter. When I push the start button, nothing happens. I checked the pilot light and it is off. I used a long matchstick to see if I could start the pilo

there is no pilot light. electric igniter will glow and pull amps allowing gas valve to open. if you do not see igniter glow it is bad or thermal fuse has blown. look for 120 volts at the igniter when running. if voltage found bad igniter, if no voltage trace back to fuse/stats.this assumes dryer is actually running. if drum not turning could be a number of things. door switch, fuse, etc

Gas dryer Maytag model # LDG410

You don't light the pilot. Gas dryers have a glow bar type ignitor. These get very fragile with age and will burn out like a light bulb. The other thing that will wipe out the glowbar is moving the machine if it gets handled roughly.
