1 Answer

I have a dell Optiplex gx260. I bought a nice big Acer 23"monitor 1920x1030 but the max resolution in the graphics properties is 1280x1024 so I get a stretched screen or a poor resolution

The resolution 1920x1030 is not a standard resolution. Also at the time this computer came out you did not have monitors this big ether. So you most likely will not be able to get 1920x1030 on this computer. However if you install the drivers for the monitor on the computer you should atleast get the right aspect ratio so you have poor resolution. You should have a CD with the drivers on in it. The llink below will show you haw to install them maually in Windows 7 if the drivers are not in an installer. Let me know if you need the steps for Windows XP.

Try going to your control panel and then to display settings and adjusting your settings from there. If that doesnt work then i'd get a new graphics card. It may also be the VGA cable you are using. Try using a different one

Dell OptiPlex GX260 video drivers don't work with Windows 7

In your original question you say your max is 1280x1024 and in your second you say it is 1680x1050. The video card drivers are what determine your maximum resolution, not your operating system. If Dell has no drivers that support higher resolutions you'll have to change the video card.

GRAPHIC CARD PROBLEM

Hi, I noticed you posted this same problem again. Here's the answer from the first post which should answer your question.

The maximum performance of your video card is limited by the hardware you attach it to. In the display properties of Windows, your highest resolution is 1280x1024 because your monitor is not able to go any higher than this. This resolution is a typical maximum for a 17" monitor. Some 15" can do this, and some 19" can do this. In order to get a higher resolution, you'll need to get a bigger monitor with a higher native resolution. For example, a nice 24" monitor can only do 1920x1200. The video card can go higher, but it's limited by the monitor. 32bit color is your highest setting - that's 16 million colors. Your video card's 1GB of RAM only determines how much rendered data (usually 3D) it can store and move at any given moment, which is related to but not determined by your screen resolution. That's a very nice card - you should be able to get very good frame rates, color, and performance out of 32bit color and 1280x1024. If you want a higher resolution, you'll need to get a bigger monitor.

ACER with Dell 24" monitor

If it is a Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP it can display a max of 1920x1200.

Mirage 3 is integrated graphics I believe and integrated graphics have no business running such HD resolutions such as 1920x1200. It will choke or refuse to do that resolution generally.

Other 24" Monitors can do a max of (1920x1080) which is basically 1080 HD resolution. You need to find which monitor you have, what its max resolution is, and then find what the max resolution is that your SiS Mirage 3 can output.

Lost resolution windows vista upgrade on GX260

Hi all,

I tried numerous solutions for this issue and none of them worked except this one. I tested it with Vista Ultimate and don’t know if other Vista versions have the same drivers but here’s what worked for me:

1. Right click ‘Computer’ then left click ‘Properties’ to open up System window.
2. Click ‘Device Manager’
3. Click ‘+’ on ‘Display Adapters’ and you should see the drivers for your video. Right click and select ‘Update Driver Software...’
4. Select ‘Browse my computer for driver software’ and click ‘next’.
5. Click ‘Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer’
6. Untick ‘Show compatible hardware’
7. Select ‘Intel Corporation’ then select ‘Intel 82865G’. Click next.

This will install the drivers. No they are not the same drivers for the hardware but they work a treat!
