Did you make sure that the power problem was with your power supply itself? It could have gone bad. Also, some laptops have power jacks that tend to, over time, break loose from their solder points. Does the laptop have a battery indicator (so you know the battery is charged/charging)? Try to eliminate the potential subsystems (e.g ram, power, cpu, cooling, cabling, etc..) that could be at fault
