If you have some jewelers phillips screwdrivers (very small tips) you can take off some screws and maybe pop a cover back in place. The zoom lever has 3 screws holding it in....2 at the bottom of the battery compartment and one in the compact flash card area. Go here for pictures....

Why does my Panasonic DMCFZ28 take pictures when I push the zoom lever?

Hi,
I suspect the snap key is shot circuited, use contact cleaner spray in the click button often press it to get ride of possible carbon shot circuit between the switch. in some cases the processor will malfunction, and if moisture or water particles gone inside, you must open the cam and clean the motherboard thoroughly with PCB cleaning agent.

We have this camera and it will turn on & zoom. The camera will not snap the picture. What could the problem be? We have changed the batteries without sucess The camera has hardly been used. Larry

The problem could be that you're not fully pressing the shutter button. Many people squeeze the button until something happens... that's the half press that causes the autofocus to operate etc. Because something happened, they don't continue to press hard enough to actually take the snap.

Of course it's also possible that the plunger on the shutter button is too short and isn't reaching the switch properly, but I've only seen that on a kids cheap camera where it was squeezed too hard with impatience because cheap cameras operate slowly.

Oh, and one more thing: are you squeezing the button for long enough? I don't know how slow this particular model is.

Remove your batteries and look inside the battery compartment. Notice that there should be three small phillips screws at the bottom of the compartment. Tighten up all of these screws.

Malfunctioning of Nikon 2100

I had the same problem. The shutter button is faulty and is always half pressed - auto focus is operational (this is the step before actually the picture is taken. Try to clean it up with some special electrical contact spray. if this does not work - need to replace it - Not a simple job for the novice. You might need to take the camera to a service center for a spare on-off-expose button. I had an old faulty camera where I took the button from it. That solved the problem.

Have you done a "hard" reset?

Under the jack cover (below the zoom rocker on the back of the camera) there is a small "reset" button. You'll need to press it with a sharp object, and hold it down for a few seconds. If it was a setting problem, this should resolve it.

The camera zoom got jammed

This can be caused by several different situations. Most commonly the camera has experienced some kind of impact which knocks an element out of alignment, preventing the lens from rotating normally. Symptoms of this include: *you may hear no mechanical sound at all when the camera is turned on *you may see visibly mis-aligned components of the lens *you may hear a loud "snap snap" sound as the camera tries to move the lens when the camera is powered on The second most common cause is a particle of sand getting stuck in the focus motor drive gears. This prevents the focus element from moving normally and causes the camera to shut off to prevent damage to the lens assembly. Symptoms of this include: *A loud "buzzing" sound when the camera is turned on, followed by the beeping and shutdown. Finally the third most common cause of this problem is a broken tooth on the zoom motor drive gears. Symptoms of this include: *the sound of the running motor with a regular "click click click" sound for several seconds. This will not be a "snap snap" sound, that is a different problem. *the lens will move in and out easily by hand as if free from any resistance. All of these problems require disassembly to repair. The charge is around $125 at my shop. Broken drive gears are generally This can be caused by several different situations.
