Hi, its not easy to fix, 1st check if you have any warranty left if you do take it back and get an exchange if you dont your going to need to get the gpu and cpu chip reflowed as the problem you are having is caused by over heating.

how ever it may just be a dirty dvd drive

try the following.
1 get a cd lenses cleaner from a computer hardware store and run this in the ps3
2 get a can of compressed air from comp hardware store and using the straw attatchment spray air into the dvd drive to remove any build up of dust.

if them to ideas dont solve the problem then your ps3 has over heated so do the following,
1 check all the air vents are free from dust and vac them out if needed
2 make sure your not using the ps3 whilst its on carpet or on top of anything like dvd player or sky box as this will cause it to over heat a lot quicker
3 use the ps3 standing up this allows the bottom where the fan is to keep a lot cooler buying the stand will prevent it from falling over but just to try it you can stand it on something solid

if after doing the above you still have the problem your going to need to find someone who can reflow the gpu and cpu chip to see how much of a big job it is use google and type in how to reflow gpu and cpu chip on ps3 then hit search and have a look at a few of the sites and you will see the kind of work involved its not the kind of job you can do yourself

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

My son wants to buy a demo console from a friend - does anyone know if it can play games online being a demo console?

I don't envisage any reason it wouldn't connect online.
The PS3 has both a wired and wireless connection. Once he sets himself up as a user on the PS3, and a PlayStationNetwork ID, he should be be able to play online without any problems.

I'M PLAYING A GAME AND IT FREEZES IN THE MIDDLE WHAT'S HAPPENING

PS3 freezes in the middle of the game when playing, most gamers think it is CPU overheat problem but actually not the reason. You need some killer methods to fix and test it. Do you know it's just waste your time and money if you send to somewhere repair - because the same problems will be back after then. The best way is to learn the repair techniques of yourself.
There is a PS3 DIY Repair Guide: The author use text and video to show you how to use your hands to open your console and do some maintenance and fixes, at last you are amazing that why you can do that yourself. The best part is you can help your friends too!

My ps3 is freezing

Hey.

I might sound like a stupid solution, but if the PS3 is in a dusty area it sometimes freezes.. Try to vacume clean it.. Also, is your fan on and does it sound ok. It might freeze due to overheating. If it only freezes when you play games on a disc, it might be a problem with the laser reader, which could also be due to dust.

Hope some of it helped.

Regards

Ps3 freezes while playing games why

There are many reasons why your PS3 could be freezing. It could be over heating during game play, and you should keep the system in a better ventalated room. The other reasons my be internal and I'd suggest you call Customer Support at 1800-354-7669. Just tell them what's up and they'll suggest a solution. The wait time for me was like 12 minutes, so its not that bad.

I hope this fixes your problem and happy gaming!
