Question about Samsung Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a samsung widescreen dlptv model hln467W/hln567w and when I turn it on there is a loud high pitch buzz. Everything works but the buzz is unbearable. Any clue on what it is and if it can be easily fixed?

    Tim:

Thanks for the rapid reply. I assumed that it might require a tv repair man to look at but was hoping there might be some suggestions as to whether this is something that could be easily identified or I could identify and order the part and fix. The65 " tv is heavy and not easy to move and getting a tv repairman to come out may be complicated and expensive, I am not sure if there are any qualified repairman that make house calls. I would have to search for one. So if you are an expert and this is really a job that can not be done easily without an expert, than I will look into getting one to come out. The product is 6 yrs old and not under warrenty.

Unfortunately it could be a number of things, in order of likelihood it would be the power board, power supply, main board, color wheel, or even a bulb that is buzzing. You will need to contact a local TV repair person in your area. If you think it may still be under warranty please contact the manufacturer to file an RMA. If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.

But regardless it is a serious problem inside the TV and will only continue to get worse. I would definitely get it looked at.

Thanks
Tim

I figured it was over 5 years old. I can find someone in your area that is qualified if you want, just reply with your zip code and I will find one.

Thanks so much, and sorry for the grim news,

It's my pleasure really :) Here are the places I'd recommend, in order of recommendation (based on other customer's experiences and prices) I'd call them all and see what they'd charge to come evaluate it in person, you can't really go wrong with any of them, but the first place (AM) is definitely my personal recommendation, if they are even close in price to the others I'd go with them.

If possible please come back to the question here and click the Accept This Solution button, otherwise I don't get credit for the help provided.

A piercing high pitched buzzing noise when on. The sound volumne does not affect the buzzing. Always very loud.

You didn't post a model number but if this is a CRT TV (non-flat screen) the noise may be coming from the high voltage circuit and may be a warning sign of failure in the near future.

Samsung 7178 buzz noise

Is this buzz from the speakers?
Is this buzz from the set itself when the sound is turned down?
Is this buzz a low pitch sound?
Is this buzz a high pich sound?
Does this buzz vary in loudness with the volume control?
Does this buzz change in level from time to time?

You should post the details and the circumstances of use in order to give some idea of the conditions.

Weird noise over everything

According to the Samsung website: "The high pitched sound you hear is probably coming from the flyback transformer. The flyback transformer converts the relatively low voltage electricity that comes from the outlet in your home to the high voltage electricity needed to drive the cathode ray tube in your TV. It is not unusual for a flyback transformer to buzz softly when it operates. However, if the sound is loud and high pitched, it probably means the transformer is failing. To eliminate the sound, you will have to get your TV serviced."
