Try taking the case off and cleaning everything out with compressed air (Make sure to unplug the system from power source). check your discs to make sure they are not scratched . You may have to clean the optical reader lens inside the cd/dvd rom which can be rather tricky if you do not know how to do it manually. I suggest buying a cleaning disc at your local computer store and that should help. Let me know if it does not, we will explore further options.

I can burn movies onto my pc & make a cd ,they don't work

it's because you are using cd to burn the movies on to and not dvd. your dvd will only read movies from dvd. I know it seems like if you put movies on a cd it should read in a dvd player, but since its not on dvd disk, then it will not play.

My DVD/CD+RW will not recognize CD or DVD (Lite-On DVDRW SHW-H65)

It sound like your DVD/CD+RW has a problem with the read/write head. So u can use some cleaning liquid to clean the head. After cleaning hope it will work on CD. Most of the time DVD are not played or read properly when you eject the disk while in use.

I have a HP media centre pc, which has a lightscribe DVD writer/CD writer. It will only run certain cd's, most of the time it will not recognise there is a disc in the drive. The drive will start up,...

unfortunately it's a sure sign your drive is faulty, the noises are the laser trying to read the tracks, cd's can be easier read than dvd's because the tracks are wider apart, whereas dvd's data is packed tighter together and the reading is more difficult for a faulty laser, you will need to replace it or buy an external usb writer.

hi gavo,
since its still new, you still have the receipt with you right? better bring it back to where you bought it and let them check it instead, we dont like to void the warranty. :)

were you able to use it even just once? try a different cd, if you use cd in your first attempt, try dvd the next, try movie cd or audio cd, just to isolate the problem.

just post your feedback here,
