If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, and you're SURE you have good ink cartridges properly installed, then you can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head
parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then try a head clean/nozzle check again. If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

All colours except the black appear to be printing on my Epson C64 InkJet printer. What could be the problem?

Hi,

On this printer, the black colour is a separate cartridge.

It is possible that is has run out of ink or maybe is blocked in some way.

Try removing the black cartridge and hold it up to a bright light to check the ink level.

Make sure the contacts where the ink flows out are clean and not blocked with dirt.

If there is plenty of ink but it still won't print then try a new black cartridge.

Please rate my answer if you find this helpful.

Many thanks,

Chris

The problem with your printer is the print head. Usually you have to run the clean nozzle thing 5 or 6 times to clean the print head nozzles and if there's still no improvement after that then print head needs to be changed for the printer to work properly. The bad news is that a print head costs almost as much as a new printer.

Epson stylus c64 does not print in colour only black and cyan, no magenta or yellow but the ink levels are going very quickly on all. Where are they going?

I find by leaving the printer on stand -by it not use as much ink dont swich your priner off, because every time you swich in on it will star cleaning the heads on your printer and that will use lots of your ink up

One colour cartridge on epsom sx200 is empty yet it wont allow me to print in black only

umm... this is not a solution because I don't think there is one apart frombuying new inks. Epson and all other inkjet printers do this to preventthe coloured print head nozzles from getting blocked. If they are notused for a long time the ink dries up and blocks the nozzles. Epsonrecommends printingat least once a month with all colours to prevent this. Printing inblack only option will only work if the colored inks are OK. Wheneverthe printeris turned on it performs a head clean, this is why the coloured inksget used over time even though they are not used for printing.

Hi maryryherd - yes the C64 is in the list - don't know why you couldn't see it.

The inkjet colour system can be quite confusing. The colours in the cartridges are cyan, magenta and yellow, plus black. Other colours require a mixture of these basic ones. For example, to produce "red" requires a mixture of magenta and yellow. Your problem sounds like you are getting insufficient yellow, and maybe insufficient black.

Have you tried a cleaning cycle? If not, try one (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select head clean). Now run a nozzle check (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select nozzle check). Are all the 3 colour bands plus black printed OK. If not, try up to three cleaning cycles. If ink is now flowing pretty well, but not yet perfectly, don't carry out any more cleaning cycles. Just leave the printer for 24 hours (to allow any air in the print head to disperse). Then repeat the cleaning cycle/wait process. It may take a while to restore a perfect nozzle check print. If these actions produce no positive results, report back with a new comment.

Printing in black & white when color cartridge ran out

One of the possible reason why you can't print black in white because Epson ink jet printers require all of the ink cartridges to have ink in them in order to print any color, black and white, or grayscale images. More than that Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when users are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged for color printing and prevent air bubbles from entering the color print nozzles which can damage the print head.

Epson C64 printing oddity

Are you sure that there is enough ink in tank? If there is then the head got clogged. You can try one thing open the printer head and soak it in Hydrogen Paroxide(It is available in Medical store) for one night. Then do the maitenace through software(Nozle Cleaning etc.). It will work. But in epson printer 4 times rechagre will almost drain the tank. so be ready to have another set of Ink tank.

Unfortunately, if you have replaced the cartridges and tried many cleaning cycles, then there is no solution other than replacing the unit. A good replacement would be the C88+
