Doing skype and it is saying i need a sound card does that mean i do not have a built in microphone

No that basically means that you dont have a sound card in the laptop. This could be an error if you can hear sounds from skype, what you could try is if you wanna just uninstall and reinstall your sound drivers.

Check your sound card if is it connected properly or not. This problem also because of improper drivers or absence of drivers. Check your wiring connection also.

On SKYPE the other party cannot hear me. A message comes "SKYPE needs to access your sound card" what is the problem?

The problem is that your sound card drivers are not installed properly.
Try to re-install your audio drivers using the driver cd, they provided to you and from the compaq website.

When trying to SKYPE, it says problem with recording, is this a webcam problem?

Apparently this error means another application may be hijacking your sound device/card. Programs like total recorder.

Please exit all other applications ESPECIALLY anything that may be using your sound card and try again (quit skype and restart)

Also check you have latest sound drivers via device manager.

A sound card is a device inside a computer which regulates the input and output of audio to the computer. They can be a separate "card" or piece of hardware, or they can be integrated on your motherboard.

A problem with your sound card could be a multitude of things. The first step of solving the issue would be to verify that your sound card has the most recent drivers, or updates, for use. Find out what sound card you have by going to Control Panel, then Performance and Maintenance, and click on See basic information about your computer. A panel will open up, and click the tab at the top which says Hardware, and then click the Device Manager button. Scroll down to Sound, video, and game controllers, and double click that (or press the + next to it) to open up the drivers and codecs for sound and video. Anything relating to the sound or audio may be it. Then, search for the company of your sound card and find the appropriate drivers.
