Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

Whirlpool GS6SHA (XLL03), 8 years old this month. Came home and could hear the motor humming a little louder than usual. Opened the freezer door and noticed everything was thawed. Refrigerator seemed cool. Now, three hours later, refrigerator shelves and contents getting sweaty as if it isn't cooling as it should either. Time to call repairman? Tips, tricks to DIY first? Thanks..

Clarification and thanks for the tip. I pulled that bottom panel off and cleaned those coils some; they really weren't very dusty at all. Also pulled off the inside back panel of the freezer side. The coils (tubing) inside there were warm and dry.

Roaring sound

I have had the same issues. I have owned my LFX25960 for 18 months. All the cooling, noise, and condensation problems are related to 2 fans. One for the freezer/refrigerator compartments and One for the Ice Maker. The fans, apparently, are not sufficient to move enough air through the coils located behind a plastic panel in the freezer compartment. The part numbers for my fans are 1. Ice Maker 4681JB1029E and Refrig/Freezer 4681JK1004E. It is not impossible, but fairly difficult to replace them yourself. You have to remove the large slide out freezer drawer and glides. Then work the back freezer panel loose from the bottom. Be careful not to break it. It is plastic.
Routine maintenance: Pull the refrig out from the wall and blow-out the coils and fan located on the lower right rear. You might find it easier to do this by removing the cover on the lower, back of the refrig.

Motor stopped running but lights & ice maker OK

this is most likely a bad condenser fan motor. pull refrig from wall remove compartment cover on rear and inspect the fan that cools the compressor. it is either jammed or seized up and needs replacing. while your at it you may want to clean the condenser coils as well they most likely have dust and lint build up on them. this motor is fairly easy to replace yourself if your mechanicaly inclined the part number should be 833697blade and can be purchased online, at a local appliance parts supply house, or thru a sears parts and servie center near you.
to keep the unit working until you get it repaired you can put a house fan blowing on the compressor area to keep it cool and this will get temps back to normal and cool down that center frame as well.
Thanks Peyton..

8 year old Whirlpool gas dryer will not run - it just hums when put on any setting. Is this a motor problem or the belt?

it sounds like the motor....generally before the motor dies the motor will become louder and louder, and when its hot and you try to restart it it will make a loud hum as it tries to turn

Electrical noise

If the noise from the compressor sounds like a humming followed by a click, the compressor is "short cycling". Could be either the compressor relay or the compressor itself is bad. Not sure on the hissing noise. Could be just a loose panel that needs to be tightened or adjusted.
