Question about Acer Aspire One PC Notebook

1 Answer

Without warning the Netbook just stopped working - power light goes on but nothing else - none of the other lights that normally flash during start up work - it sounds like the hard drive is spinning but nothing else happens - the computer has been cared for well and has not been dropped or shocked and has had Norton antivirus updated regularly - this is strange as it was working fine until I turned it on last night and nothing happened!

David,
If there are no other lights flashing other than the power on light means that the power is reaching the laptop but the BIOS is not picking up. The POST (Power On Self test) is not being carried out. The BIOS seems to have gone. It needs a replacement. Please visit the Acer Service center. I hope it is under warranty. If not then you will be required to pay for the repairs.

I have a sunbeam EM 6910 I have just replaced the seal. When I power it on it goes through the warm up then the power light stays red and the machine starts pumping straight away.

I had this same problem. Turns out that tons of crawling insects had been living in my machine and caused an electrical fault. On my machine, this issue stops when the machine senses the water is empty, so you can try just removing the water level magnet from the tank. If you do, you still get the low water beeping and flashing red light. I sorted that by disconnecting the beeper and light from the main board but I had to open the machine right up for this, so that will take much more effort. Didn't really FIX the problem, but did circumvent without much loss of function (except the low water warning). See if that works.

Power light flashing amber

Follow the steps given below. (Please be careful when handling computer electrical components like batteries and AC Adapters)
  • Remove the battery and hold down the power button for few seconds (to drain all remaining power)
  • Power up the computer without the battery with the A/C adapter plugged in.
  • Wait for few seconds and plug the battery back in
After a few tries the computer should start charging normally. The amber battery stops blinking and turn green when fully charged.

Machine won't work.

Robert. You have a bad water valve OR completely clogged up filter screens on the valve. My past experience with this machine with this type of problem is to replace the valve assembly. part Number W10364988

My Acer aspire one just stopped working for no reason. I plugged it in to charge it but none of the lights come on, and nothing happens when I hit the power button...

Assuming that the AC/DC Power Adapter is not faulty no LED lighting up at all and no image at all on the screen might mean a power management fault on the motherboard.
First try removing the battery underneath the netbook. Then connect the netbook to the power cable without the battery installed. If the netbook powers up without a battery installed then the battery is probably faulty most likely with completely depleted and unchargeable power cells. if so you will almost certainly need a new battery and some little known guidance on the correct management of a netbook or notebook battery (see below). Dead batteries tend to generate a more than normal amount of heat.
If the AC/DC adapter is not faulty and using the netbook without a battery does not help then check the DC power jack where the power cable connects to the netbook to see if the jack is loose or detached from its original solder point on the motherboard.
If the none of the above are the cause of the problem then the motherboard probably has a power track or capacitor fault which might be repairable (as would a loose DC jack) but these types of fault even if successfully repaired can easily come back and the cost of repair might be high compared to the value of the netbook and not worth it since a brand new state of the art netbook with a full warranty would not be very expensive.
Many users take an incorrect approach to netbook/notebook/laptop battery management. These batteries are rechargeable and are only supposed to be connected to the power cable when their cells are low or depleted. Once the cells are fully charged the power cable should either be disconnected and the computer used on battery power alone or the battery should be removed and kept for when battery powered use of the computer is next needed.
Once a fully charged battery is removed the computer can be used directly connected to the electricity without the battery installed.
A disconnected battery needs to be reinstalled and recharged from time to time if it is stored for long periods of time, because the charge in its power cells very slowly dissipates even if is disconnected from the computer.

When i switch on the engine light comes on and then goes off before i can even start my car help me quickly please

I am not real sure I understand your question, but, before you start your vehicle, when your key is in the on position it is normal for the warning lights to flash. This is how the onboard computer system checks everything to make sure it is working correctly.

If none of your warning lights are staying lit after the engine is running, you do not have any problems.

Power indicator /red/ and warning led/red/ are lighting after ea 15 sec. a lamp never start and fans goes in OFF mode. I checked power supply lines S5V,S-5V,S16V on the Main Board . I checked unit lamp...

If power indicator light red and warning indicator red flashing than according to user manual :-
The projector has been cooled down enough and the temperature returns to normal. When turning ON the projector the WARNING indicator stops flashing. CHECK AND CLEAN THE AIR FILTER.
Experience:- 1. if the temperature is very low than temperature sensor maybe misbehave.
2. If anyone fan not working
so please you check fans.
(If lamp or lamp ballast unit faulty than after a time period the lamp indicator light ON not a warning indicator. I experience many times if any fan in projector are broken or jamed the temperature light if present otherwise warning light ON or flashing)

I turn my Acer on and nothing happens. The light

Try this it worked for me

Updating the BIOS will require a USB flash drive to store the BIOS information on during the update. To perform the update to the BIOS:
  1. Go here and download the latest BIOS for the netbook.
  2. Extract the files from the downloaded zipped BIOS file.
  3. In the Dos_Flash folder, rename the BIOS file from 3310.fd to ZG5IA32.FD, in all capital letters.
  4. Copy ZG5IA32.FD and Flashit.exe to the USB flash drive
  5. Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged in.
  6. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.
  7. Press and Hold down the Fn and the Esc keys together and press the power button.
  8. When the unit's power light comes on wait a few seconds and release the Fn and Esc keys.
  9. After the keys have been released the power light will start to blink.
  10. During the BIOS update process the display will be blank.
  11. Let the unit run and after approximately 1 to 7 minutes, the unit should reboot and the BIOS will be updated.
If the unit fails to reboot, or the BIOS was not updated sucessfully, try the steps again. If the unit continues to fail to reboot, the unit may need service.
Note: These instructions are only for the Acer Aspire One AOA-110 and the AOA-150 netbook series and should not be performed on any other model Acer Aspire One.
