Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

4 Answers

Can't scan from printer or computer

I have the full software set for the C6180 installed on my laptop, which is connected wirelessly to the printer. I can print perfectly well to the printer from the laptop. I can copy etc on the printer.
When I run the HP Solution Center it exits with the error "No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now."
Similarly if I try and use other software from the computer, it's not aware of the C6180 as a scanner.
If I try from the C6180 (choosing the scan to computer option) it says No Scanner Options.
Somehow for scanning purposes the two machines are unaware of each other - what do I need to do?

Connected via USB no problem - drivers installed, Control Panel option shows the scanner, I can scan etc.

When I unplug USB scanner disappears - but again I can print to it fine over wireless.

    This worked

Insert the vista HP 6800 series setup disk in drive O: (it should be the same drive you used to install originally)

Select the option to install an additional device using existing driver

    Select network when prompted

    Follow the wizard through

    Voila.

I do not use windows firewall on my machine so I did not need to open any ports.

The method posted did not work probably because I could not find a way of running the image monitor again after it had been closed.

I have a L7680 I try to open my HP Soluction Center, I get the error message " No HP device have been detected. I have a Windows XP sp-2 . I have had HP on the phone for 8 hours and nothing. I have had them on for 2 hours today, 3/25.2009 and nothing. I can scan, copy, print, fax with other program. But I can not open HP Solution Center. I have uninstalled all HP programs with the uninstall programs. I have installed their program 9 times and still the HP Solution Center will not open. I am now tring to find a program that can control scan, print, etc. Thanks I really think their program has errors in it and HP doesn't know how to fix.. .flerner224@cox.net Thanks and if any one has beat this, let mek know....

Close the Digital Imaging Monitor.
◄ Start or restart the services :
1. HP Cue Device Discovery.
2. HP Net Device Discovery.
3. HPQCS08.
◄ Run Digital Imaging Monitor.
◄ Wait for a Minute, if the configuration screen appears it is done else refresh the HP Cue Device Discovery
◄ Restart the Printer
◄ 99% chances of resolution and in the other cases a proper uninstall and reinstall is needed

Try running with a cable connection
Try the firewall logs
That will confirm whether it is an install error, a buggy wireless connection, windows firewall may not be allowing inbound access from the printer, too many possibilities to discuss without some clarification

What do I need to make my printer wireless?

You need 1) a wireless router with a USB port that supports the HP OfficeJet printer. 2) The software for your router to run a printer on the USB port. Obviously, you will need a USB A/B male end cable.Note: the scan features of the all-in-one may not work unless the printer is directly connected to the computer. Bi-directional communication is required for scanning and the router software may not support this completely.

Check the list of supported printers closely for older routers. I have a Cisco Linksys E4200 v.2. This router supports all the HP printers that I use.

If this is a new installation of the printer, first install the printer on the computer. If you have Windows 7, just connect the printer to the USB port on the laptop. This will install the OS drivers for the printer. (For Windows XP, go to the HP site and get the full software.)

Next install the wireless router between your modem and computer and set that up. (If you have DHCP (dynamic address allocation), it should be automatic. Otherwise follow the directions.) Next install the router software (for my router, it was Cisco Connect).

My next step was to launch the Cisco Connect program and connect the printer directly to the USB port on the router. In Cisco Connect, choose add a printer and find the printer connected to the router. Print a test page. (At times, I've had to reset the port that the printer is on in the Windows Control Panel Printer Properties. (For the Cisco Connect, the printer is on the DOT4 port.)

Other routers will be set up somewhat differently.

Another option is to have the printer connected to a desktop and then make it a shared printer with the wireless router communicating between the laptop and the desktop. This makes the desktop the print server, so it needs to be on when you want to print. If you have several computers with Windows, this can fairly easy to set up. Make sure that the computers are in the same Workgroup (XP) or Homegroup (Win7). Enable sharing and you are done.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(who has a OJ 7000 (with ethernet port) and a LJ1320 (USB) connected to the router. Three computers talk to these printers with the laptop on the wireless network. On an older router that didn't support the printers, the laptop was the server for a previous OfficeJet and one of the desktops was the server for the LaserJet.)

How can I scan with HP Photosmart 6180? I have Vista 32-bit; printer is connected to my network via the ethernet port (fixed). Thanks ... Puzzeled Mark

If you installed the full-featured HP software (for Vista), you should be able to scan from there.

If not, there is a work-around solution to scan from Vista without using the HP software:

Wireless radio button is suddenly not

If you have a password on your wireless internet make sure you are entering that into the printer. Do a scan on your computer, it could be that your neighbor and you have the same channel number. That could be your problem. I had that happen to on my wireless laptop.

How do i get my printer hp photosmart c6180 set up with my computer so that i can scan pictures from it to my computer

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01705280&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=1153494

These instructions will help you install the HP software in Windows XP - make sure you choose the FULL driver install (explained on the link). The basic driver does not provide any HP scanning software.

If you want to scan pictures without installing any HP software, Windows has some built in scanning features.

For XP...

For Vista...

My HP C6180 printer will not print wireless via my laptop

Well it s a issues with the ip address on the printer and the computer. Both of them are not the same. You need to delete the printer icon and inser the cd that came with the printer and then try add a device .The printer drivers would be reinstalled and it should be ready to print and scan.

C6180 stopped scanning after installing leopard

Unplug the printer from the computer, uninstall the printer software, and download the latest software and drivers from the HP website.

Leave the printer unplugged from the computer while you reinstall the software. When the installation program asks you to plug in the printer, do so.

One the software has completed installation, reattempt the scanning function.
