ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
If you have to check/replace/repair your drum motor, drum seals, belt, rollers, etc.
If replacing drum seals be sure to use a good grade of weather proof cement to hold the seal/s in place.
Note: This method works for most front loading machines.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch or other electrical connections.
Remove the lint filter and the screws that hold the filter housing.
Then remove the top of the dryer.
Note: Some of the tops tilt backwards and do not have to be removed completly.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.

Try to remove the top without removing ANY wires from the timer, if you have to remove the wires from the timer be sure to mark the color of the wire and to the terminal it is connected to down on a sheet of paper for future reference.

I HAVE THE NEW BELT INSTALLED ON THE DRUM. LOOKING FROM THE BACK OF THE DRYER THRU THE ACCESS HOLE, I SEE THE MOTOR/PULLEY AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT. THE IDLER PULLEY IS ON AN APPX 12" SHAFT LOCATED ABOVE AND TO THE RIGHT OF THE MOTOR/PULLEY, AND THE IDLER HAS VERY LIMITED MOVEMENT AND IS NOT SPRING LOADED. AFTER INSTALLING THE BELT THRU THE PULLEYS LOGICALLY, THE BELT IS EITHER TOO LARGE OR I'M DOING SOMETHING WRONG. THE BELT IS WAY TOO LOOSE. PLEASE ADVISE: IS THERE A DIAGRAM AVAILABLE FOR BELT INSTALLATION AROUND THE PULLEYS?

Go to the website www.davesrepair.com ...they have a video on how the belt is installed that will help you.
The belt as it comes off the drum has to be doubled(pushed together to form a loop) and goes under the idler pulley then to the motor

Check YouTube - there are tons of videos on replacing the belt in dryers. You have to dismantle the frame in order to wrap the belt around the drum. Sheet metal screws hold dryers together - it is a fairly simple job, once you are acquainted with the general procedure.

If you are not too mech minded I would suggest you leave the timing belt to the experts. Also I could not describe this procedure in this forum as it would take considerable time. You can download car manuals off the net also.

I would purchase a Haynes repair manual for this job the manual is $20.00 and is worth every penny for jobs like this, It would take 300 - 500 words on this forum for me to describe the procedure.

03 vw bettle serptine belt

Replacing the serpentine belt on a New beetle is not easy as it was on the old one.

First you need to remove the Water tank, and undo the hoses near to the water tank.
Then you remove the three bolts securing the tensioner with a 13mm socket wrench, and release the tensioner.
Then you replace the belt.

The procedure is explained here on pages 2 to 5
, do not go over page 5, the rest of the procedure is on replacing the timing belt, and you risk to damage your car by touching the timing belt.

Once you replace serpentine belt, ensure that the pumps is running, that the belt is well in tension, and that is solidly there, not slipping out.

All the repairs must be done or supervised personally by a qulified mechanic.

Regards.
