Updated software and now have Guam - Tomtom GO 720 GPS Receiver

No it didn't work. It all started when I downloaded updates for my unit. After that, I couldn't access the US map, only Guam. Now there are battery problems. My unit is getting old so I don't know if this is all tied together.

Try to reset the Tomtom follow the following steps:

#1 Consider whether or not you really need to restart your TomTom GO. Restarting the system means that any preferences or stored data will be lost. Try to turn the unit off and then power up first to see if that solves the problem. If not, restarting may be the only option.
#2 Locate the restart button on your TomTom GO. Turn the TomTom upside down so that you can clearly see the bottom of the GPS. The bottom of the TomTom GO will contain a hole where the unit connects to the docking base. Next to this hole is a recessed reset button.
#3 Press and hold the reset button. Use a pencil or ink pen to press in the reset button. Do not let go right away. Hold the reset button in for 15 seconds before letting go. This will wipe away the stored memory of the device and reset your TomTom back to the original factory settings.
#4 Set up your preferences. Restore all of the preferences you had set. Select the voice of the audio navigator, select your "Home" location and choose any other presets that make your TomTom GO the perfect navigation tool

My tomtom only gives Guam locations

Your problem might be that the GPS can't get a lock on the satellites and it doesn't know in which part of the world it is.

I suggest you download the latest updates and QuickFix, then leave the unti close to a windows (even if you are indoors). The unit should be able to getn afix on the GPS satellites in less than 15 minutes.

Please, let me know if you need more detailed instructions.

Tom Tom only has Guam map since update

That is really strange!
I can only suggest that you verify what MAPs are physically on your TomTom device by connecting it to a PC/LAPTOP and use Windows Explorer to look at your GPS drive folders: should see a folder for each 'country' (like GUAM).
The normal way to check which maps are registred and loaded on your device is to use TomTom Home -> Update maps function: it will show you the status or whereabout of any Maps that you have loaded or backup and which one can be purchased.
Hope it helps: let me know how you go.
ps.i f you wisely backup your device on a regular basis (via TomTom Home or direct copy to your PC/LAPTOP), you could always RESTORE FROM BACKUP and start again.

When upgrading, it defaulted to GUAM and not the USA. How do I get back to the US?

I found Guam settings on G:\Guam and deleted them one-by-one; TomTom automatically defaulted back to the USA.

Current location error

Do you have the back up map of usa? If so you can format the sd card in a card reader from the computer, and reinstall, did your update update tomtom home to version 2? As there are some glitches caused by this update, it may be worth reverting to an older version of TTHome,

Setting country on tomtom one

This TomTom comes loaded with 2 maps....Guam and the US with Canada. I too got stuck in Guam and it is not obvious how to get out of it. But here it is.
Go to Main Menu, then Change Preferences
Hit forward arrow twice
Go to Manage Maps
Hit forward arrow once and choose Switch Map
It should show you Guam and the US and Canada
Tap US and Canada and it should take you out of Guam!!
Mine did and I am now going to delete the Guam map.
