Wish I could help ya. I have a 170 BF 65cc engine that does the same thing. I did replace the spark plug but that only seemed to help for about an hour then it did the same thing.

Pull the muffler and look for scoring on the piston. I think you cooked it my friend. You may have a bad coil or fuel cap, but it's more likely you ran the mix too lean.

Yes, the exhaust screen check is a must any time performance is low.
Your problem sounds like fuel starvation, ie. the fuel hose in the tank is broken or cracked. The weighted filter is on the end of the hose and has deteriated. You may have to replace the hose. Make sure to use the OEM hose as it is a special ethonal resistant material.
Additionally, if you can turn L and the H screw on the carb out (counterclockwise) about 1/8 you may find performance to be improved. Initially, most manufactures have leaned the mixtures of the screws to meet EPA specs., but performance suffers.

Sounds like a fuel starvation problem, Strip and clean carb. Avoid using airlines to clean carbs. remove low and high adjustment screws, reset to factory settings. Walbro carbs are generally scew both of them back in all the way and then turn out 2 full turns each anticlockwise.

Trigger stuck on full

This machine has a metal throttle rod from the trigger to the carb, you need to look at the side of the carb where the rod connects to the carb, with your finger ( with the engine stopped ) work the carb throttle spindle manually to see if it is moving freely and it springs back to the small throttle idle screw easily, if it does unscrew the idle screw with a cross head screw driver until the machine idles ok, if not you need to take the l/h side cover off to investigate what has happened .

Where is the resistor pack located that is in the heater circuit, for a 1998 mercury Mistique?

Might be the Resistor pack located close to the blower. Could be under the dash or under the hood, but always close to the blower itself. Usually has a flat connector with 4 or 5 wires, and two small screws holding in the duct. It may be a crispy critter. It happens... The blower moves air across it to keep it cool. The blower motor may be bad as well, or possibly the fan speed switch. May very well be the fuse for the blower as well. The blower connector may be loose. Let me know what you find.

What happens if you play with the choke ? does it clear up or change, If it does then it's a fuel problem example : fuel filter, fuel line cracked, dirt in carb. If the choke does'nt make a difference then , try a new spark plug Good Luck, Let me know how you come out 2StrokeJim

Try pulling the muffler off and checking for blockage in the exhaust port, expecially the small hole above the main exhaust port. This is the same thing that my 125bt was doing this season and after cleaning out the carb with no improvement, I found some carbon build up in the exhaust port. The small hole above the port was completely blocked. After cleaning up all of the carbon buildup, it ran back to full power again.
