Hi, what you need to do is this. IF you have NEVER set a password, then the default password will be the active one, and that is admin for login and admin for password.
However IF you have set a password and forgotten, then you need to remove the router from the power and reset the router via the reset button, usually in small hole at rear. Then power up again and use the default login and password, as before admin admin.
Now once you are logged into the router, then it is a simple matter to change the password to whatever you need, and then save the settings.
You didn't indicate the make and model of your router, I advise you to find a manual online and have a look in that just to make sure you have it all OK.
simply go to Google search, and type in the exact make and model and the word manual... this then will produce links to download a manual.
EG: Linksys 1234A manual

yippers, that happens, use your cell phone number next time. So you need to log into the router and create new wireless security password, and change channel to 11 or so and free up interference with wireless land line phones.

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Then click on wireless then wireless security then WEP security change the password and save settings.Then restart router then you can connect wifi with new password. Forget wireless-G broadband router, how do I change it
There is a reset button in the back, small pin hole, hold it in for 10 seconds.

This will restore it to when it was new so you will have to reset all your settings.

The user will be- admin and the password -linksys

or check your manual if these don't work.

Unplugging the wireless router and connecting it again should not have altered the wireless connection/configuration. You have connected the cables correctly because the Internet works when you connect a LAN cable to the router.
The Linksys wireless configuration or the wireless card configuration in the computer was changed it to lose the wireless connection. The wireless card configuration needs to be changed to match the wireless router's settings or change the Linksys with new configuration settings and configure the wireless card accordingly.

If you press and hold the button o the back of the router that says reset for 30 seconds, the router will restore factory defaults. Then, your routers password will be reset to "admin"
