Question about Frigidaire FEB27T5D Electric Double Oven

Open Question

I have the PLEB30T8CCA double oven. The problems grow with time on this unit. First the top broil coil would not work. Checked contunity and it is good. Second the bottom broil coil would not work either. Third the top oven will not heat up at all. Display shows "On" when option selected on choice picked. Can you help? I am thinking that the control boards are going bad.

The best way for you to check is to swap with other element since they use the same one. FRIST turn the breaker off! Then take out the 2 screws on the element. The wires unplug, make sure they don't go back in the holes or the oven may have to come out to find them. You can pull the element out and take it to a parts house to see if they can check it with a ohm meter for you if you don't want to pull both of them out.

I replaced the relay board for the top oven (the one with the transformer) and it works properly now. My issue was only for the top oven so you probably have to replace both relay boards since both ovens have only the top element working.

318022002 is the part number for the relay board with transformer
318022001 is the part number for the relay board without transformer

Yes the one without the transformer is more expensive for some reason.

The boards are on the top of the oven, I was able to pull out the oven about 75% of the way out of the cabinet and easily get to the boards. Just unplugged the connections and plugged them into the new board.

To get the oven out there are two small screws that go into brackets inside the top oven door. Highly recommend taking the doors off the oven to pull it out, much easier to work with.

NOTE: On my old board I noticed one solder joint that was burned out and I since I already had the new board I just replaced but you might want to check that first and see if just a solder fix gets you working again before you spend $$ on a new board.

Someone mis-wired the new control. Turn off the power to the range. Open the control console, switch the bake and broil wires on the oven control.

You say you checked the thermal fuse but did you check the broil element for continuity. Most ovens use the broil element for the clean function. The thermal fuse will shut off both the bake and the broil element.

Why has both top elements stop working at the same time

Hello kimberlymaso - If you are referring to the bake element, but the broil element works then you would need to just replace the bake element. If both your bake and broil element does not work, then there might be a problem with the wiring communication. However, if the oven does not bake and/or broil but the cook top works; contact a professional to diagnose the EOC (electronic oven control).

Top oven turns on for 5 sec and then goes off. Neither top or bottom coil in top oven gets hot. Does not work in Bake or Broil mode. Lower oven works fine.

On the following web page, part #238 is the temperature sensor for the top over, and would be a suspect component, but it could also be a bad oven control unit:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=216508&diagram_id=21205725#d21205725
Since the top and bottom oven both have the temperature sensor, you coud swap them out to check or verify the suspected bad sensor.
Otherwise, unfortunatey, it could be the expensive control unit. You could contact GE support- it's worth a shot- sometimes there are recalls, and they may be able to help. Here's their site:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

BOUGHT A HOME IN UNION NJ WITH THE GE DOUBLE WALL OVEN TOP PART DOES NOT WORK BOTTOM PART BURNS THE FOOD NEED REPAIR PLS CALL ME AT 908-391-8942

The heating element in top unit may be loose or burned out. Push the element toward the back and see if it engages. If it is already engaged, you'll need to replace it. It is simple to remove it.Just give a firm tug and it should come right out. To replace with a new element, simply push it in firmly.
With the bottom unit, are controls set for bake? If they are set for "broil" you are using direct heat and it will cook foods more quickly. Also, is bottom unit a convection oven? If so, foods will cook in 1/4 to 1/2 the time for a conventional oven, so you'll have to adjust your temperature down about 25-50 degrees and shorten your cooking time.

BROIL ELEMENT DOES NOT HEAT

If it is only the broil that is not working the the problem is more than likely the main board, the thermal fuse and double line break relays will affect all the elements in the oven in question. Due be careful the likely hood that you have no voltage at your element is not very good. If you have the terminals connected to the element you are probably reading a zero potential, try measuring from terminal to chasis ground should get 120v. on the main control looks like k-9 for the upper broil and k-13 for the lower broil relays
