on this page you will find all you need about your camera ...from drivers to manual and on the perform regular maintenance page ..you will find the last link exactly about the flash memory and cards..
Im sure in the manual will be specified with graphics the exact way to insert and manage it ..but in short ..the sd card has a slot where you insert it ..and automatically the camera will store the pictures on the card once detected..
if is the first time the card is used the camera will ask for to format it ..which is the procedure that the camera will build the memory in the format it recognize it ..and erase it in the same time ..
After that the card can be read directly on any card reader on laptop or computer ..and no need for further cables and drivers ..for downloading the picks..Just copy /paste from the card ..
Let me know if you do not manage to find all information ..and I will extract them from the manual ..
another thing ...if you want to manually delete the card completely ..the easiest way is to look in the menu for storage feature..choose card ..and in that area's options choose format ..or ..just insert the card into a computer and select all pictures and delete them ..

I sow the comment that you made to one of the guys that answered you earlies..and your card is not a SD but a Compact Flash card ..
Here is the instruct-age about from the manual..

    <
Use only CompactFlash Association (CFA) certified flash memory cards with
the HP PhotoSmart digital camera. These cards are manufactured by several
vendors and are available in a variety of storage capacities. Other memory
cards are not supported by Hewlett-Packard.
For a list of supported CompactFlash memory cards, see the HP PhotoSmart
    Web site:http://www.photosmart.com >>
In the manual the card compartment is on the right side....and it has a control led above ..and a switch for on/off just under ...Thsi will allow you to use it or use the internal memory by needs..http://www.memoryx.net/compactflash.html

You can only insert the memory card one way in the camera, and it snaps in when inserted all the way. To take it out, just push it in a tad, and it will release and pop out a bit, where you can grab it. There's really not much in the way of maintenance. You transfer pics and vids to the camera, clearing the memory, then it's ready for another shoot.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Hp Photosmart 8150 can't read sdhc memory card

Unless the SD slot is specifically designated that it can read the new SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) memory card it will not read even though it plugs intop the standard SD slot.. I checked and this printer can't read the SDHC card only the standard SD card. You can buy a SDHC USB reader on ebay for a few dollars.

Where is memory card inserted in E317 camera?

Open the battery door. There's a small slot behind the battery that is for the memory card. The notch end of the memory card should go in first when inserting it. See the image below

How do I reset my HP photosmart digital camera R742 to read the memory card. It's not reading it.

Try another memory card. It can be that the memory card stopped working. Also check if the tab on the card is not in the locked position.

Once you checked this, then I will conclude it is the camera. Are you able to insert the card so that it stays in without it trying to pop out? Maybe that one of the pins in the card reader is bent. This prevents the camera from recognizing the card.

Hp photosmart memory problem. unsupported card

Hello There

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

Camera wont work when memory card is inserted

I suggest you try to use a different memory card. If it doesn't happen again then it's probably a bad memory card.

When a camera is inoperable or fails to function, or an error code appears in the liquid crystal display (LCD)

Follow the steps below in the order presented: Perform a power reset on the camera. Performing a power reset on the digital camera will normally correct issues such as the camera locking up or not turning off. When the power reset is performed properly, the camera will prompt you to update the camera’s date and time. This is an indication that the memory has been cleared and no further reset time is required. The power reset procedure must only be performed on a camera that has been running on battery power. If an AC power adapter is being used, the power reset procedure does not apply. This is due to the fact that the internal capacitor is fully charged. To execute a camera power reset, perform the following steps: Turn off the Digital Camera. Remove the Compact Flash Card or Secure Digital Card, if one is being used. Turn on the Digital Camera. CAUTION: To avoid damaging the camera, ensure the shutter button is not pressed during the following steps. Turn on Live View on the rear LCD. CAUTION: Care should be used when performing Step 5 to ensure that the camera is not dropped. Open the battery door and remove the batteries with the camera turned on. Re-insert the batteries after five minutes have elapsed. Turn on the camera. The camera should request an update for date and time (with the exception of the HP Photosmart 120 and 912 series cameras). Format the memory card. Navigate to the delete menu which varies with each camera, and format the internal memory and/or the memory card. CAUTION: Reformatting the memory card erases all of the files that are stored in the card. All photos, scripts, and miscellaneous files are deleted permanently. To preserve the existing images, use a spare card or a card that is already formatted.
