First make sure that your Camcorder is in the Disc Navigation mode to be able delete your required scene. When the camcorder is in the play back mode the delete scene won't appear.
The second situation is to check if your scene is not locked because if it is locked you are not able to delete it. Supposing that your scene is not locked then check what type of DVD disc you have. The discs labelled DVD Ram, DVD+RW, and the Card can be deleted. The DVD-RW can be deleted only when in VR mode and not the VF mode. Other types of discs like the DVD R can not be deleted.
Another way of deleting a scene after it has been recorded on a disc that's not deletable is to transfer the recorded scene to a computer disc and then edit it off.
Follow the instructions in the "Deleting Scenes" section of the manual (page 43 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one from the manufacturer's web site at
Hi there, it's pretty simple cannon just calls it initializing the drive rather then formatting the drive. The steps are as follows:
Hit the function Button on the LCD
Scroll down to the icon of the Hard Drive
Choose the option Initialize HDD
Select YES and then YES again and you're done.
HD movie recording disabled: SOLVED for 2 HDRSR5's (work and home): After copying all movies to computer, "DELETE ALL" from HD view. Evidentally if you have been deleting movies using computer, the still images used for 'scene selections' remain and fill its capacity. You must be in HD view when choosing Delete All (that is, rather than just deleting all Standard movie clips)
Hi download the manual for the camcorder aqnd follow the instruction on deleting video page 38 Canon Vixia HF10 Manual (http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/CANON/VIXIA%20HF10-_E)
I had the same problem while trying to delete video off of the camera's hard drive using the VideoCam Suite software. I never could figure out how to do it using the software. However, you can delete scenes from the hard disk directly in the camcorder using the menu. For instructions, see page 59 of the manual for this camcorder at http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/SDRH40P-MUL.PDF
