We have Dishnetwork, and the other TVs work fine. So the problem is not from anything else except for this TV itself. All three colors are not together and this happened yesterday without any disturbance to the TV. Starting about 3 months ago this TV set is giving red pictures sometimes when it is turned on and will become normal after several minutes.
I'm looking for solutions that I can do to fix it at home (by myself of course) because there is no philips service center in the area I live nor is worth it. It is about 7-year-old. Is it the end of the life?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes,tvs with a colors wheels design into it are more prone to brake down and more quickly than tvs without colors wheels design into it.The colors wheel in the tv spins at 12000 RPM at every cycles to make and let the tv Light Engine shine a beam of light into a colors wheel to make and have a colors spectrums to make it to works for the tv.No projection tv with a colors wheel are not easily to be replaced have go through alot of trouble to replace a colors wheel itself. The tv colors sit way back of the tv have to take out many tv mechanical tv frames bulk heads even than can come to the tv colors wheel itself to replace it.Take ur $500 buck buy a "40 LCD tv less worry less head aches.
The loud noises came from the tv with a colors wheel design in it have to be replaced every few years, because the spinning of the colors wheel disc are spinning in very high speed in RPM to have it colors for the tv to operate correctly, the humming, loud motors noises and eventually the effect of the tv colors. The colors wheel disc are worn out and spinning hitting it axes motor, the colors wheel must be replaced to solved this problems.
You have a convergence problem. If you are handy, you may be able to repair this. The signal module will need reworked. The best repair for you, or some one you know, who is an electronic servicer can get help. Please see the website www.TvRepairKits.com. You will find the best repair kit. OK, Time to fix it !!. Replace two Ic's Stk 392-110, and get in service menu settings , and adjust point by point. After replaced stk IC's, check if any resistor look brown or born, if yes, replaced it with 6.8 Ohms. If you have questions? email@example.com . Good Luck !!
my advice is that if the project is getting expensive kindly invest in a new tv. i am nt familiar with that set but you are having a micro processor problem replace it and your tv will work fine as it was before good luck.
it sounds like you are seeing the vertical retrace for all three colors
together (white). Its possible that all three screen adjustments (red,
green, blue) are off, but I suspect a problem with the screen power
supply. there is also a recall on this set http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl?mdl=KP51HW40&news_id=24
my sony did that but would turn off and not leave on. its not recommended to use like that (from tv repair man). theres a chip inside the tv that blew. it cost me 260 bucks to get someone to come and fix it.
I had a repairman out and they replaced some major components to eliminate this problem and it cost about $500. This was a temporary solution and the color was never really satisfactory again. Donated the unit to Salvation Army. The new DLP TVs are worth checking out.
