Question about Sony Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a 23inch sony bravia lcd model# kdl32l4000 i had a tech come in to diagnose my problem as the tv was still under warranty and he told me it was the voltage inverter, so i ordered a new one installed it and my problem is still there. now with that said here is my problem: about an 1/8 of the way down the screen i am getting a line across the screen and everything below that is i guess what you call ghosting/flickering i still can see what's on the channel i'm watching but it's not clear.

Hi,
Can you post image of screen that shows problem to diagnose it correctly as it seems problem with lcd panel.
You can post jpg image up to 150k file size by clicking Picture link at bottom of writing comments box.
If tv is still under warranty then call Sony or Store to replace lcd panel in warranty.
Thanks.

Yes, I got your picture email
It is problem with lcd panel, check your warranty documents and ask for warranty cover from Sony or Store, depends on Terms of warranty written on documents.

I received both images and posted one of them as reference with diagnosis that lcd panel is bad. Get it replaced under warranty if tv is still under warranty.
New lcd panel would cost you 80% of new tv price if you want to purchase it.

LCD Panel is screen of this tv that shows picture.
KDL-32L4000 is lcd tv and the image that you sent me shows problem with its screen (lcd panel) that need to be replaced to fix its picture issue.

I can see thin line starting from foreheads of both men in tv picture and downward semi transparent sheds vertically in rest of picture, is it right?

    Shahid Electronics Sep 30, 2010

If tv is under warranty then lcd panel (screen) replacement wont cost you any thing as it will be done under warranty so check tv warranty documents to see its validity.

And if tv is out of warranty then you need to buy new lcd panel to solve this problem and replacement lcd panel (screen) will cost you approx 80% of new tv price that is worthless and new tv would be better option.
Hope these info will help you.
    Thanks.

OK, new tv would be good instead of replacing its lcd panel, below is an exploded view taken from service manual that shows lcd panel, all circuit boards are in fact mounted on this lcd panel.

No circuit board is defective in your tv, it is problem of screen (lcd panel)
Now green board at right of inner image of tv is main board, center board is called power supply board and left side board covered with black shield is called back light inverter board.
If you notice, there is another board on top center of tv, it calls T-Con board, its covered with metal shield.
Both T-Con and back light inverter boards are considered part of lcd panel (screen) and comes fixed on new lcd panel as per Sony part policy.

T-Con = Timing Control board, it slices video signal to sent it to pixels in lcd, in fact lcd panel has inbuilt circuit boards internally on top and side to drive each pixel in lcd sheet.

My sony LCD tv bottom third of the screen is several shades darker the the rest of the screen. Also at time there are vertical lines in the shaded area of different colors.\r\n The TV is only 2 years old...

Sony is a great company. They care about their public image, which is more than I can say about most of the TV manufactures out there. The first thing you need to so is call them. The number is in your service manual.

Your TV is an LCD and the LCD panel is losing the "Timing" signal at the point were the distortion begins on the screen. This is caused by an internal connection becoming weak. The LCD panel can only be replaced to resolve the problem. This is expensive! Sony, if approached correctly (don't yell or curse) may help you with the bill. They may cover parts or labor... best case, they cover both! It's best to try... this is the only company that I know of that helps out like this. I have witnessed it several times!

I wish you luck and best wishes.

Have a Sony KDL32L4000. All of a sudden a dark spot has appear in the middle of the screen. TV is 2 years old. It is oval shaped and about 3 inches long. Is it a board problem ?Thanks

Call Sony right away. They have been having lots of issues with this model. If you are nice (and pleasantly) persistant you may be able to get a replacement at a reduced price. Definately talk to them about repair as well however many report their out-of-warranty (same model as yours) tv was not worth repairing. Many issues on the web for this model. In several of their models over the past 6-7 years there have been many class-action lawsuits. My in-laws got a brand new Sony 52" TV at 1/2 price because of all of the lawsuits over models before yours. They are likely in the mood to work with you right now.

Flickering screen

Two models of the 46 inch Sony Bravia have a screen flicker problem. On my 2008 model, starting from cold, it lasts for 5-10 min, on LHS of screen. The Telefix tech who visited said this is common with these models (46in only), a new panel is needed. Sony provides warranty on this fault for 3 yrs, so you do not need extended warranty to claim. Discuss your case with Sony or Telefix.

Sony Bravia KDL-40S2000 thin vertical line

If the line is present in all inputs and modes, there is a problem with the LCD Panel. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole LCD Panel which is very expensive (usually around $1000+ for 40" Sony). Unless the TV in under warranty, it is usually around the same price for a new TV.

Not common but electronics are electronics , we can have failures right out of the box. Generally Sony is reliable and I must say that you should not have to worry about cost , Is it not under warranty - its only 4 months old !!
