Coby MPC7085 requires a 12 hours charge when used for the first time.
Always use a direct connection to the computer when charging with the USB cable: a hub or cardreader should be self-powered.
See page 12 of the manual: http://www.cobyusa.com/files/manuals/MPC7085_MN.pdf
first just charge it before you go to sleep and dwhen you wake up the next day check....dont ever reset it because all the settings reset also which means the light on the keypad may not work to make light on the keypad...turn it on...scroll down to setup..click it and scrol down to display,,,click that then click backlight and put how many seconds you want it to stay on...mine is 11 sec.(the thing is from 3sec-11sec.)
These players are notorious for battery problems. Charge it all night and you just might get 30 minutes of use out of it before the battery dies. Make sure the slider switch next to the power button on top isn't in the "lock" position as the unit will not power up if it is. I recommend getting a 12 volt car charging plug for it and getting real aquainted with the tiny reset button on the battery side of it. You can get a plug for about $6 that will charge it through the usb cable that came with the player.
