Many thanks for your suggestions i will certainly be doing this. I did buy another iron and paid £350 for it. It also stopped working after 12 months yes just after the guarantee had run out. I quickly learnt after shelling out £200 in repairs, and it stopped working again, that i was throwing away good money after bad.

Ok. sounds like you have lots of iron( Fe) in your water. You must always use only distilled water in the unit or you will get stains and eventual failure of the unit. The other possibility is contamination of the ironing surface or ironing spray product. 250 Pounds is the most expensive iron I have ever heard of outside of a commercial model,so it would certainly be worth taking to a shop for checking if nothing else works. Howdy, it's me again and I have been doing more reading about some of the Tefal irons. Some of their models call for ordinary tap water in particular and warn not to use distilled water. I at first thought this was a misprint, but found it repeated on their website. So, make sure to fully read those directions before use. New information for me, yippee:)

SOURCE: tefal proline express steam generator iron needs de scaling

Make a solution of half water and half white vinegar. Fill up your iron and get it good and hot then let it sit a couple hours. flush out and repeat as necessary. Hope you find this helpful. Please give me a fixya rating If this works for you. It works very well as long as it is not completely filled with scale. Once you have it good and clean By a gallon of bottled water at the market and use that for your Iron and you will never have a scale problem again. I learned how to do this 20 years ago from a 80 year old woman from england. If it is really bad you can up the vinegar concentration but do not go higher than 2 cup to 1.

We have a GC8420 steam iron. The steam is regularly discoloured, first a pink, chalky stain - very difficult to get out of fabrics - and today a lot of dark brown/black water coming out. We do empty out...

Hi, Brown water and whitescale are often the result of the water you use in the iron... If you have scale, white vinegar will clean that... For brown water, empty the iron, rinse out the insides with bottled water, and then use the bottled water instead...

Why does my Tefal Pro express stain my ironing with brown marks and scale, I fill the tank with softened household water, but I still get a sudden gush of brown scale water. We live in a very hard water...

Its a real pain, but use only distilled water.

Fill your iron with white vinegar and let it steam until empty.. face down on a towel on lowest steam setting.

Brown gunge and white deposits keep coming out of the steam holes on the sole plate. We have tried de-scaling but it has had no effect. This iron has had very little use since we bought it about 18 months...

Try filling full-strength white vinegar instead of water. Then allow to steam out on scrap cloth. The white deposits are likely to be calcium. The brown gunge may be rust. When the deposits are minimized, use only distilled or bottled water from then on.
