I bought this laptop a few months ago, the salesman was supposed to install Vista on it but he screwed it up so I installed Ubuntu instead, I now have XP pro on it and I can't get the audio to work. I've installed a variety of drivers and can't get it to cooperate. It worked fine on Linux.
I can't find anything useful about this laptop anywhere! Am I the only dope who bought one?!

Power down your Compaq Presario F500 notebook computer. Remove the unit's internal battery from its housing compartment. Use a screwdriver to unscrew and remove all of the screws from the
bottom panel of your Compaq Presario F500. Use your hands to lift off
the bottom panel, revealing the inside of the notebook computer. Look for the CMOS/BIOS chip: It will be located in the center of your
computer's motherboard, which is itself located in the center of the
case. Remove the small battery from its housing compartment on the CMOS/BIOS
chip. Then, press and hold the "Power" button on the laptop's case for a
few seconds. This will completely discharge all electricity from the
device. Replace the CMOS/BIOS' battery. Place the bottom panel of the notebook
computer back on and screw it back into place. Place the Compaq Presario
F500's battery back into its housing compartment and press the "Power"
button to turn it on. Your CMOS/BIOS will now be completely reset. Good luck and please let me know how you get on!!!!
