Hello,

Google "Notebook Hardware Control 2.0" this little piece of software lets you control a great deal of what's going on with fans, batteries, power settings and much much more.

I would also suggest you look for updates from Toshiba specific to your model and apply those. If those updates do not fix your issue email Toshiba Customer Service explaining your issue. There may be a more specific fix for your model we here are not aware of.

This could also be a Vista issue. Have you downloaded or do you have Vista SP1. To check if its installed press the Windows key plus the Pause key and under system it will state if you have Service Pack 1. If you don't, let my know by commenting back and I'll talk you through it when you have some time to answer several messages until its done. OK?

Best Regards,
Worldvet

That can be an electrical problem. I would talk to the manufacturer about this problem. I would do it ASAP because any type of short or continuing electrical current can be bad for the computer. Even ruin it. If they can't help and you are still under warranty you might want to replace the computer. With a new one.

Good Luck!

How to reset toshiba laptop to factory settings. Without original disc

Toshiba laptops from mid 2007 onwards dont have a recovery disc supplied with a purchase of a laptop. Instead, Toshiba has added a hidden partion on the hard drive which contains the same files on a recovery cd / dvd.

To reinstall your laptop to the factory settings / "out of the box" settings, please follow these steps. It worked for me, and should work for you.

ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED ON YOUR HARD DRIVE IF YOU PROCEED. YOU WILL NEED TO ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE THE POWER ADAPTER PLUGGED IN. DO NOT SWITCH OFF OR RESTART YOUR COMPUTER DURING THIS PROCESS.

1) Hold down the power button for 10 (ten) seconds to switch off your machine.

Please note: Holding down the power button on the machine forces it to switch off. Any unsaved data will be lost.

2) Press and hold the 0 (zero) key and at the same time, tap the power button once to switch on your notebook.

3) When the machine Starts beeping; release the 0 key.

4) When prompted by the warning screen; select Yes to continue with the system recovery.

5) Select Recovery of Factory Default Software; click Next.

6) Select Recover to out-of-box state. Click Next again.

7) Click Next to Start recovery.

I hope you find this step by step solution helpful for you.

Thank You

You can download any/all the Windows Vista device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page.

Hard drive fan stop working computer stop, yes I have power but but, computer will not tyrn on

The hard drive does not have a fan unless you put one on it. The hard drive is inside the computer and had a company name on it such as Maxtor, Seagate, Toshiba etc.
Did you unplug the fan that stopped working? If the fan is your processor fan, it might have burned up your computer. I have seen the entire motherboard go bad on a computer, just because a fan stopped working.
What make and model computer is it? If it is a laptop, it might be damaged beyond repair. Let me know more information, and I will keep trying to help you get the problem resolved.
