Question about Frigidaire FEX831CS Top Load Stacked Washer/Dryer

1 Answer

A dress is stuck underneath the agitator. I have removed the agitator before but this time it won't budge. In turn the motor appears to have burnt out because of the problem (I was not home when the agitator got stuck) How do I get the agitator off to free the dress? And will it be worth a repair or should I just buy a new one?

Remove the agitator in the same way you removed it before but with some shear force this time. The dress has to do with the difficulty of the agitator removal and there's no other way to pull it out.

The motor costs between $140 and $150 excluding the labor cost but you can do it yourself. It is still worth the repair if no other problems observed.

How do I get a dress belt released from underneath the agitator?

  1. You can try to grab the belt and go counterclockwise gently and it should release. If not you have to remove the agitator or cut the belt off.

I have a kenmore 700 series top-loader washing machine. Its about 8 years old but looks pretty new. My knob turns fine but the housing enclosure for the number does not turn with the knob. I have to...

The burnt plastic smell is probably the belt that drives the agitator. There may be something stuck (wrapped) around the shaft under the agitator that tightens the gears so the belt just slips and heats up. Remove the agitator and make sure the shaft is clear. also if it is belt and gear driven, check the gears. This means removing a panel or turning the unit sideways to inspect from below. The hum is the motor either not turning or turning with the belt too tight.
Hope this helps...

I have a GE top load Model GTWN 4950L, there's a belt (cloth) that's stuck around the bottom of agitator. How do I remove it?

On the top of the agitator is a cap. Take it off, then there is a nut and a lock washer and you remove those and lift out the agitator. Then you can take the belt out.

Agitator won't spin and water won't drain during spin cycle

Hi
Try these things first.
1) Verify a circuit breaker isn't tripped
2) Advance the timer control dial slowly 360 degrees-
If the washer starts spinning, then we know the motor and drive belt are fine but that there is something wrong with either the timer control dial or the agitator solenoid. Call in a professional for this.
If the washer doesn't budge, then verify that the drive belt(s) is attached and not broken by removing the back panel. If the belt is broken, replace it. If it is loose, then tighten it by loosening up the bolt holding the motor and moving it on its swingarm (much like a car alternator) until there is a 1/2 to 3/4 inch deflection in the belt. Some washers use reversing motors. It's possible the motor works on the spin cycle but not on the wash cycle. If so, call a pro.
3) Visually inspect the lid safety switch- Is it loose or cracked? If so, the washer might work intermittently, stopping at different cycles.
4) Check motor and drive belt- Remove the main access panel (usually in the back). Is the motor spinning, but the drive belt isn't? If so, then you have a drive belt problem. Go here. If the motor isn't spinning, then go here for washer motor troubleshooting.
If none of these tips resolve the problem, then there's probably a more serious problem with either the motor, the transmission or the agitator itself. If this is is the case, call in a pro.
Thanks for using Fixya.

How to remove theagitator

Removing the agitator requires a special wrench to remove the specialty bolt that holds it on.
Better to carefully untangle the dress. It may take some time, but it will be worth it.

Can't get agitator off of GE spacemaker model WWP 1180G

There is a bolt, ok. Remove the bolt and lift the agitator by reaching underneath it with both hands on each side and pull it up. If it seems really stuck, apply some WD40 and let it soak a bit before trying to pull it again.

Removing bolt in agitator arm

The bolt unscrews counterclockwise. Hold the agitator by the bottom vanes. If it won',t budge try tightening it first, just a little to break it free.
