Question about Philips 42PFL7432D 42 in. LCD Television
Wow that is some major malfunctioning, I don't think it is caused solely by software, and the upgrade you did would confirm that in my mind. I think it is the actual main board in the TV that has physical problems. I am sure someone in the area could do the repair unless you are in a very remote part of the country. They may not be on the Philips approved list so to speak, but I am sure there is someone who could fix this TV. Let me know your zip code if you want me to find someone for you.

If the firmware upgrade hasn't helped then the problem is hardware - a part is faulty. By your description it appears that the main processor is functioning erratically and this can be caused by:
- overheating - you will need to open the tv and clean the inside thoroughly.
- an unstable power supply - you must open the tv and check the power source, probably the filtering capacitors have aged/failed and the output voltage is way off the recommended value.
- the processor itself is dying - you will have to replace the mainboard. Unfortunately parts for your tv can only be found at authorised repair shops, or dealers, so you will gonna have to take your tv to one.
