Question about Philips 42PFL7432D 42 in. LCD Television

2 Answers

Set turns itself on, scrolls through all of the menus, raises the volume, or lowers it, all at random. Did the software upgrade but this did not solve the problem. I am in an area where there are no Philips repair depots. Is there another software fix I can get? Any help would be appreciated. This is a great set otherwise. Set is a Philips 42PFL7432D/37. Wow that is some major malfunctioning, I don't think it is caused solely by software, and the upgrade you did would confirm that in my mind. I think it is the actual main board in the TV that has physical problems. I am sure someone in the area could do the repair unless you are in a very remote part of the country. They may not be on the Philips approved list so to speak, but I am sure there is someone who could fix this TV. Let me know your zip code if you want me to find someone for you.

Thanks
Tim

If the firmware upgrade hasn't helped then the problem is hardware - a part is faulty. By your description it appears that the main processor is functioning erratically and this can be caused by:
- overheating - you will need to open the tv and clean the inside thoroughly.
- an unstable power supply - you must open the tv and check the power source, probably the filtering capacitors have aged/failed and the output voltage is way off the recommended value.
- the processor itself is dying - you will have to replace the mainboard. Unfortunately parts for your tv can only be found at authorised repair shops, or dealers, so you will gonna have to take your tv to one.

Failing capacitors will present a measurable resistance (instead of an infinite one) - but they will also look damaged: bloated, leaky.
The resistors will have their resistance smaller than their values and will look overheated - burned, scorched.
The transistors/rectifiers/IC's will present as a short.
As to not look blindly around start by identifying the output of the power source that has a reduced value and follow it.

You have to turn up the volume to 38+ in order to hear the TV, when you use to be able to hear it at 10, is there a control board that goes out and what Is the name of it?

Hi Geoff, I hope I can help you with this. If you are using an accessory device (DVD, DVR) check cables to see that they are secure and if device has audio out option that it is set correctly. Also check to see that Video and Audio cables are connected to matching inputs on your set.
If you are using DVI to HDMI you will need to use a separate digital audio cable. DVI cables do not carry audio signal. After attaching the audio cable if you still do not hear sound you may need to set Digital Audio In. To do so:
  1. Press Menu Button on remote.
  2. Press the cursor ring down to highlight SETUP.
  3. Press the cursor ring left to enter SETUP menu.
  4. Press the cursor ring down to highlight SOURCE.
  5. Press the cursor ring left to enter SOURCE menu.
  6. Press the cursor ring down to highlight DIGITAL AUDIO IN.
  7. Press the cursor ring down to select the source you want to associate Digital Audio with. HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 in this case. You might need a software update also.
The latest software solves the issues below:
    1. TV (Plasma 42" and 50") will not turn ON/shut off itself and Red LED blinks 4- times. Recover if main switch on/off.
    2. 37" LCD full white screen appear when upgrade software.
    3. Some channels not available after turn ON.
    4. Delta volume changes, not remembered.
    5. Preferred channel changes, not remembered.
    6. Green or yellow static (sometime snowy) on HDMI picture.
    7. Picture and sound loss for 5 to 10 sec (green LED is still ON) and back to normal.
    8. Audio loss in all inputs and can be recovered when main switch ON and OFF.
    9. TV set turn ON by itself/ green LED light up and goes off when set is ON.
    10. Intermittent audio loss in NTSC RF channel.
    11. Crack sound with high input signal.
    12. Include the possibility to download the rating table (RRT5 capability) for digital programs.
    13. No video/ no picture with sound.
    14. Intermittent On-Screen Menu pop up by itself and can be removed by pressing the 'MENU' button.
    15. Channel information display too long.
    16. Improvement on scramble channel.
How to check the current software version on my TV set?
    1. Press 'MENU' button on remote control to display the on-screen menu.
    2. Select TV MENU and press the cursor right.
    3. Select INSTALLATION and press the cursor right.
    4. Select SOFTWARE UPGRADE and press cursor right.
    5. Select CURRENT SOFTWARE INFO to display the current software version on your TV set.
    6. If the TV software version is lower than the version posted on the website means your TV set needs to be upgraded.
    7. Follow the instruction in the user manual or Firmware Upgrade Readme file on how to upgrade your software.
Where can I find the latest software for my TV set?
The Firmware Upgrade Software and Readme File documents can be found on the Philips support website. Refer to the SOFTWARE section.

I have a 6th generation iPod Nano. This is the fifth one I've had and they all have had the same problem. At some point (usually after I've had it about a month) it starts to turn the volume down...

The only thing I can think of is that maximum limit has been set low and is somehow lowering itself. To set the maximum limit

On the home screen, tap settings
Tap Music, then tap Volume Limit
The volume limit control will then come up to raise the limit move the slider all the way to the right.

If you want to stop the volume limit moving you can put in a passcode by clicking on the Lock Volume Limit and entering a passcode (I'd just put in 1234, so you can remember it easily(

Hope this helps.

My brand new LG 47LE5400 has no audio

I would verify that the volume control built into the television will not turn the volume up or down. If it does then the remote is causing a problem. If the button on side of tv will not raise volume up or down, I would contact the place where the set was purchased and have them either send out repairman, or either give another set. I guess this would be pretty much up to you since it is a brand new television. Hope this helps.

Hi! My Toshiba 40RV525u TV has a problem, it turns off or on by itself. I checked the auto power off settings, the time is not set (it is 00:00). This happens very randomly. Now I just plug out in the...

My TV 40RV525U changing channels, menus itself for few months.
my son tried to stop the channel scrolling by enter weird number into the channel to stop it scrolling such as 555, 777..
later, it turn on off by itself and unable to hold on a channel ( I use antenna)
I call Toshiba customer service and they ask money $25 for troubleshooting but I denied since I do not want to waste money and time.

Now, I found how to fix it myself.

In my case, something was wrong with the signal comes from the button control on the left side of the TV.
========================
What I did
========================
unplug the power cord.
Remove back cover.
Look into the motherboard ( biggest green at the center).

First, I disconnect a connector on the motherboard come from the IR board that receive the wireless signal control ( meaning the remote is disable).
I turn on the TV, press on Menu button on the TV side. Menu is still scrolling.

I turn off TV, disconnect power cord and connect the IR connector back to the motherboard.
I then disconnect the nearby connector that comes from the side control buttons.

Turn on the TV by remote, press menu button on the remote to check. The menu stays.

DONE.

I use electric tape to seal off the connector and let it hanging there.
Close the TV back panel

I have been watching TV for 3 nights without menus/channels scrolling.
NO AVAILABLE red message when watching DVD is no longer existed.

Hope this help someone else.

Camera Norcent DCC 725 turn itself off after 25 sec., even when I am going through the menus and pressing buttons. The 'power save' function is set to 3 min.

Try to remove the power save option and see if it turns off, make sure u have sufficient battery power too. If it still persists then u have to do a software upgrade.

Thankyou

Strange problems

earpice volume is easy.
when you are on a call hit your volume key and you will get a volume ramp displayed on screen then just raise or lower to your preferance.
Second prob is a little different.
it may be a battery prob.
Does it turn off when you are on a call or will it turn off while sitting on a desk or in your pocket?

TV PROBLEM

I don't know your set in particular:

Genericaly, there are some models of sets that have a pre-set level for the sound. Check in to the menus of the set if there is a setting for the audio level at turn on.

Some manufactures designed their sets so that the sound is at about 30% up when the set is first turned on. This is annoying. They did that because they had people turn on the set and call their tech support that their set had no sound. It turned out that the volume setting was at "0"!

Problem with the volume

Two things can cause the problem your set has,one is the volume up button in the front of the set is pushed in too far and it has the momentary switch active all the time or the cleaning solution you use to clean the face of the tube has dripped down thru the lower edge of the frame into the switches creating a short and making again the switch active all the time.If the cleaning solution went down to the switches they will need to be replaced. If you are familiar with tv service you can remove the back cover and check that the button is not pushed in or it has corrosion built into.If you are not too familiar with tv service be safe and take the set for repair,if they come to your home it will be more expensive. Let Us know if you need more information.
