The LG fridges are all controlled by the board. Depending on the year of your unit, the unit will go into defrost once every 12 hours on the older boards, and once every 24 hours on the new ones. The older boards, were 12 hours, these were also the ones that had the problem. On the back of your unit, open the panel that covers the board, if it is 6871JB1375A it is old and could be the cause for the problem. You will need the xxxx1375D this is the modified board that should solve the issues.

Your problem of intermittent defrosting in the freezer may be related to a moisture problem in the refrigerating system. System have a refrigerant filter dryer installed which removed the moisture through chemically bonding it. In areas where high ambient temperatures are moisture will be released under hot conditions. A dirty condenser can cause moisture to be released when the system overheats. This moisture will circulate through the system and become as a block in the refrigerant feed. Once it reaches the freezer section it will become solid and hold at that point until it is again freed to circulate such as a normal defrost cycle.

This same condition can be caused if the compressor becomes overheated and cycles off on the thermal overload protector. This problem can be caused by a faulty condenser fan motor, dirty condenser coil, or a fault in the compressor itself.

Hi,
The problem could be a bad bearing in the condenser or evaporator fans...more likely though is that the evaporator fan is hitting an ice build up on the coils...this can be caused by a bad defrost timer...
more closely check on the sound... you will find it....

a few drops of oil on the fan shafts just ahead of the motor will not hurt either...

LG fridge/freezer rumbling/vibrating sound

Check your defrost components. The fan is hitting the frost buildup and will shut off when the door is opened so as to not circulate the warm air. The heater or the timer is not doing a proper defrost cycle.

Control board reset?

Amana version of adaptive defrost : Press refrigerator light switch five times in six seconds to initiate defrost cycle. Pressing five more times within six seconds will cancel defrost and go straight into the run mode. Similar operation on both bottom mount and SxS refrigerators. After the defrost terminator/thermostat opens, six minutes of dwell time occurs before the compressor and condenser fan motor will operate. After defrost terminator/thermostat open, 10 minutes of dwell time occurs before the evaporator fan motor will operate.

I have a LRFC 22750 SW   LG bottom freezer with french doors.   I have been getting an error message on the digital read out ER on the refrigerator side and I think DH on the freezer side.   I  unplug...

You will get this error code if a sensor does not reach a certain temperature (+8 C, to be precise)within 2 hours of going into a defrost cycle. Increased frequency probably means the defrost build up is causing your refrigerator to run more, which will bring on the defrost cycle sooner, and the error code to repeat sooner. So, it really looks like your refrigerator is not defrosting. Soon, you will have inadequate cooling. A temporary fix to the poor cooling problem would be to unplug the refrig and open the freezer for a day or so to let it defrost on it's own, but the frost will then begin to build up again, resulting in poor cooling, depending on climate and door openings, possible in less than two weeks. Better look for service soon. If you are in the US, you can try http://us.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp to find service using your zip code, or call LG at 800-243-0000.
