The reason this happens is because if the ice sits there too long it starts to merge together into one big clump. Also there can be a drip right along the back of the cube holder, so that there would always be an icicle there. Try reducing the flow of water into the icemaker and that should help. You can also try moving the box out a bit.

  • Turn the ice maker off. The ON/OFF switch is located either on the top right side of the freezer interior, or on the ice maker behind the cover door, depending which model Whirlpool you have.

Remove a jammed ice cube from the ejector arm on models with
an interior ice bin by using a plastic utensil, such as a plastic spoon
or spatula. Do not use metal; it may damage the ice maker.

  • 3

Lift the ice maker service door while depressing the ice bin
sensor (located on the upper left side of the freezer) on models that
have an ice bucket. Remove the jammed ice from the ejector with a
plastic utensil, as described in Step 2.

Turn the ice maker on again. Allow 24 hours for the ice bin to replenish.

  • 5

Remove the ice maker cover and adjust the screw that controls
the amount of water that flows into the ice maker if the problem
continues. Turn the screw to the minus position one notch at a time, to
decrease the amount of water flowing into the ice maker, until the
    jamming stops.

Coating on maytag ice maker mold peeling & flaking

In this case you have to replace the entire ice maker since the mold section is not sold separately. If you shop carefully you can get the entire shebang for about 40 bucks on ebay.

Ice maker ice jam

Not a whole lot you can do but to keep the frost down.
If you are able to move the items in the freezer to another freezer and let it sit overnight, all your problems will melt away....
Until a couple months later when it builds up

Make sure to double check your freezer is sealing correctly, bad gasket causes moisture to be sucked in.

Here are some basic ways to slow the buildup

What causes my ice maker to drip water?

HI,

This could be either the ice maker is old and the finish inside has depleted, the water valve is going bad or you had a jammed ice cube and now it overfilled. Many different reason this could happen. Does the ice cubes stick together with a bridge? Is the drip coming from the ice maker head unit? How is the ice in the pan its stored in, stuck together? In the pan, has the ice glaciered together? Need more information please. Thanks

Kenmore 106.55242400 ice maker knocking noise

most likely you need a new ice maker, one thing that could do this is the white arms that spin around when dumping the ice, sometimes one of the arms bend and jam the ice maker and you'll hear that knocking soundthe arm gets bent, the ice cube gets stuck because the arm can't push it out,,it stops the motor from spinning through it's full cycle and damages it but this is just a guess from something i've seen happen but most likely you need a new ice maker, one other i've seen is the metal arm that you can lift up to shut off the ice maker gets knocked out of the hole it slides into.if you pop off the white cover and get a jumper wire and stick it into the h and t holes you can jump start the ice maker.http://appliantology.org/gallery/image/659-manual-harvest-on-a-whirlpool-modular-ice-maker/

AMANA ARB2257C ice maker makes noise/doesn't eject cubes into bin

Hi: First off make sure the fridge is level. Is It too high in front? Making the rear of the icemaker overflow and jam? Also make sure the freezer section is a zero degrees, not just frozen. Ice cream should be rock hard. I hope this helps you avoid calling service. Thank You, Jeff

Ice maker does not consistently make ice...

try turning off ice maker for a day. remove the bucket that holds the ice. look all around bucket and into ice maker to determin if there is a jam, or if there is a cube stuck there preventing operation. Check that the ice arm can move freely and it is properly inserted on both ends. Make sure there is nothing in your freezer that could be getting in the way of the ice maker operation, either above or below the unit. One hint-wear disposable gloves when working with the ice maker-if you have any moisture on your hands, you tend to stick to the unit.

LG ICE MAKER

Be sure that the fill tube is getting into the ice maker and that the ice maker is not blocked with ice.  If everything seems ok, you may have a leaking water valve which causes it to constantly drip water into the ice maker causing the block of ice.
