I have a Rascal 305. How long should built-in charger run to fully charge batteries. Mine only charges about one hour at 3.5 amps (on meter on back) before shutting off. What should charging current be, and how long to charge for fully depleted battery? thanks

Moleman If the batteries are fully depleted then the on-board charger will not pick them up and charge them to full strength. It is not designed to charge very low batteries. If the batteries stayed fully depleted for a period of time you will have to replace both of them. You should never fully discharge your batteries. The battery level gauge on your chair should be used to determine when to charge if it is the red recharge overnite. Get into the habit of recharging overnite if you use the chair daily. Always store the chair fully charged and if not used weekly charge once a week. Never leave the charged plugged in more than 18 hours. The chair only operates on about a 5-6 volt range from about 21-26 volts. If you are in the red the voltage is down to about 20-21 volts. Hope this helps you

The voltmeter test provides general indicator of battery condition. Check the voltage of the battery to verify that it is in a 100 per cent fully charged condition. If the open circuit or disconnected voltage reading is below 12.6 V, charge the battery and then recheck the voltage after the battery has set for one to two hours. If the voltage reading is 12.8 V or above, perform the load test described below.



The load test measures battery performance under full current load and is the best indicator of battery condition. My charger on Rascal 600 does not charge. After checking all the common reasons without any luck I remove the charger and could not measure any voltage output. My Dealer sezs the charger won't work without...


Most chargers are 3 pin. Plus and minus charging voltage to the
batteries and a third pin monitors the actual battery voltage, so
that the automatic charger can turn itself off once the batteries
are fully charged. As Brad has mentioned, the connection
from the charger has to be made for the charger to produce
a voltage at those pins. The best way to see if it is charging
is to remove the seat and measure across both batteries..
assuming it's a 24volt system like most. Charging voltage
can be as high as 28volts across the positive of one 12volt
battery (connected in series to the other 12v battery) and the
negative of the other battery. You can monitor the charging
voltage across the batteries with a digital volt meter.

My scooter will not fully charge


This could be the charger socket is worn and not making a good connection when charging or it could be the charger itself at fault. Now you have changed the batteries, I presume new and both the same type, you need to look at the charging side.

The green light on your charger indicates a full charge but you know thats not right since you didn't charge the batteries when they were in storage they have dropped so low the charger cannot detect them and provide a charge. The batteries will need to be replaced with new ones. Charge before use and charge for at least 20 days to get them operating at 100% now you will have to use it for those 20 days to get the batteries used to charging charge every night when you go to bed and unplug when you get up in the morning. If you do have to leave the chair for a week or so put up fully charged and charge once a week overnight. If you put the chair in storage again disconnect the batteries from the chair and store with a full charge. Hope this helps you

I have a Rascal 600f scooter that seems 2 work okay except both the power meter and charging meter indicates energy loss wrong.As the power is used the meter very very slowly goes down from full charge...


It is pretty common for the meters on the charger to either not work at all, or give an inaccurate reading. They get bounced and dropped, and they aren't that well built to begin with. Basically, just ignore the charger as long as you are getting a full charge out of it, and getting good distance with each charge.

We purchased a Rascal 300 two months ago that worked just fine. We seen proof that new batteries had just been purchased. It has a built in charger and we have kept the batteries charged. The charger now...

The ammeter back in the trunk should be registering when you plug the scooter in. If it isn't, this doesn't mean that it isn't charging as the meter itself may be bad. Put it on charge for a few hours and see if the "fuel guage" on the top of the tiller comes up to full. If it does, than your charger is okay and you just need to ignore the ammeter not working until it doesn't charge at all anymore, then the charger is bad. Note too, that later on when the batteries get weak and you can only go a little ways, that it still means your charger is okay, batteries not. Even bad batteries well show a full charge, but they won't take you far at all. If the batteries don't show a full charge after a few hours, then you need to replace the onboard charger.

Meter Explanation


You are correct on all accounts. A high number means you dying battery is sucking more juice from the Schumacker. A low number means the battery is not as thirsty. That's how I always think of how to read the meter on mine. Slow charge is a better, deeper charge. The quick charge will get you going, but you should maybe follow it up using the normal mode - car alternator and prolonged drive time. I never use quick charge, personally.

Schumacker battery charger problem?


You are charging. The meter corresponds to the level of charge in the battery. Try setting to 10 A for 4 hours, battery should be half-way up. To determine if battery id dead.. leave battery off charger once it is fully charged...test with a voltmeter after 10 min.....battery should still be above 12v...after1 hour it should still be above 12v...if not battery is spent.
