Thompson lyra 2gb mp3 broken or not?

Ok so i bought a 2gb thompson lyra 2weeks ago, its now stuffing up, because I bought some new batteries today and I had two previous batteries that work in my robosapien but now seem not too work on my thompson lyra 2gb, everytime I try to hold it on (holding in the play button) its comes up 'thompson' on the screen with a backdrop colour of blue
nothing has really happened to the mp3 since I bought it, is i tsomehow something to do with the way i put the batteries in? and should I have the cap on the usb port thing and the headphones in and the battery backing on there when i try to turn it on? I kindve am a bit desperate to listen to my music and I have a soughtve short attention span, hate to sound like a spoiled brat but i really want to throw it at the ground (I havnt harmed it at all lol) please help

The same happens for me, I can put the batteries back in to my TV remote and it'll work fine. Heck I can even sometimes listen to the MP3 player again for another 5 minutes before it all happens again and turns off.

Mine is now corrupt so I think I'll be avoiding this brand.

You described my problem to a tee.

I know it was cheap, but I'd hope it would last longer than this (4 months).

I have a RCA Lyra RD1072 A where can I get a memory card, it appears someone took my out my MP3 player..

You want an SD card. Bought the same size and shape as a postage stamp with one corner cut off. Get this though; they make an SD-HC card now the exact size and shape. You can't use it. Must say "SD" only. You should be able to get 2GB for about $8 -$10.

Getting a new charger for my old Thompson lyra

Check in ebay.

Also, you can get one in RadioShack. Only confirm the following:

1. AC power adapter with 5V @ 1.5Amps (minimum current, but it may be 2 Amps as well).
2. Plug tip type H
3. The center conductor is the positive contact.

Best regards,

File system corrupted

Here is a real answer that may give you some insight. A lyra is a hard drive player and you must treat it like a hard drive. Run a scan disk check or some virus soft ware. Maybe even reformat it and down load and reinstall updates. However, if it is like mine and not allowing you to access anything on it to be able to fix it, then i guess we will have to get another one. RCA is under a new name since a few years ago. The new company is Thompson Inc. These people assumed RCA's name but give **** customer support.

Unit displays "RCA" when turned on, nothing else

Update the firmware off the RCA/Thompson site. Likely that the current firmware is damaged.
