SOURCE: No internet connection through router D-Link DI-524

Lost internet connection morning of 1/15/08 through router and directly through laptop 1. But, can get internet connection directly for laptop 2 and laptop 3! Cannot get a valid IP address anymore when laptop 1 is directly connected. Also, I discovered ping works for any lettered website even when the router is not connected to the wall, but correctly times out for a numbered website (eg 216.31.156.10). Completely stumped. Please help!

SOURCE: wireless secured network key code

Hi BabyDoll - to find your key, log in to your router. Enter 192.168.0.1 into your browser. If the defaults haven't been changed, the user is " admin" all small case without the quotes. There is no password. Just enter the user and leave the password blank. To get the key, click on the wireless button on the left. Then look down the page and you'll see the passcode fields. This is what you're looking for. Also take notice of what's above it such as WPA, WEP, etc. Write this info down. You can also go into your pcs that you use wireless on and put that key in and the kind of security (WPA, etc) so that it will not ask for it every time.
If this solves your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If not, DON'T RATE YET. Let me know what happened and I'll be happy to assist you further. If you need to know how to enter the info so that you won't have to enter it all the time let me know. I'll help you with that. Let me know what happens. Thanks.

My laptop asks for a Device Ownership Password and none of the numbers/letters on the 2wire device works....how do i find the device ownership password so that i can connect wireless with my laptop?

Device ownership code is part of a stupid contraption called WiFi Protected Setup (WPS), which was meant to simplify connection to wireless access points, but doesn't simplify anything in my opinion...

If the modem has been set up by your provider, then they should supply you with that number. It may be printed on a sticker on the modem itself.

Alternatively you may try finding in your laptop WiFi settings an option to disable this WPS functionality and connect in a "normal" way. It's hard to give a solid recipe, as there are lots of different WiFi software packages out there - every manufacturer seems to have an ambition to come up with their own, whereas Windows since XP Service Pack 2 onwards can use WiFi natively, without any 3rd party add-ons.

DELL E6400 Connect to wireless Modem problem

I have the EXACT same problem on the same computer.
I'm not an expert so I searched online but didn't really find a lot of responses to this Dell issue. One suggestion was to turn off Intel PROset and let Windows manage the wireless connection.
That worked for me.
When in the Intel PROset menu, click on Advanced, then click on "Let windows manage your wireless set-up."
Alternatively, you can toggle between the two software by pressing F10.
This solution worked for me.

I'm trying to connect to internet via wifi and it's asking for a device password. what is that? this is a d430 dell.

I suspect the device that is asking for a password will be your wireless router. Normally, the password, or key, is printed on a label on the side or bottom of the router.

Hi, my problem is that i can't connect, because i don't find a device owership password... what is it and where do i find it....

I had this same problem, I hope my solution doesn't double post.

Go to your router settings - do this by typing in the address to your router into the address bar of your internet browser (you may have to do this on a computer that is connected to the internet). For example I have a dynex router the address is 192.168.2.1. Google your router brand and you should be able to find your address. Once you do this, go to the left side of the screen and find a category entitled "Wi-Fi Protection Setup." Click on this and disable this. Once you do this you should be able to surf the net wi-fi style.

Dell initially told me I needed to back up my computer and reinstall windows xp. I said to hell with that and figured it out myself. Oh they also wanted me to call Dell on Call which I'm sure costs money. Any other problems let me know if this doesn't work for you.
